Hi Guys :)

My exhaust has been blowing for a little while now, and recently has started to sound like a fleet of boy'd up hondas.

I have the C230 Kompressor, and have a few Q's about the exhaust system.

Do they have any known weak points where the problem could be?
Is the exhaust the same as any other W202 models?
Is the exhaust ststem different on the 'Sport' model?

Thanks for your help! Going to a garage but wanna know what im on about and buy the parts privately if i can to keep costs down (and get the new back-box i've been after :) )

Cheers!

Hey,
back in the day when i had the OE exhaust on my OE 230K manual,it consisted of two centre mufflers and the standard rear muffler...(no cat)
From the day i purchased it,it had a squeek/rattle in the system...i always thought that one of the centre mufflers had dropped its guts, but after replacing the exhaust from the header back with a custom system i found it was all still there...the rattle turned out to be the braket from the bell housing to the header even though it was tight,it was worn around the bolt and was seezed...
the squeek turned out to be a combonation of that worn braket and the clutch fork pivot nuckle.

...it was lucky i didnt pay MB the $500 they wanted to replace belts/tensioners etc for the squeeky clutch fork!!

You said its "blowing",so im guessing it has a leak?
Check all flange joints and check for holes.

goodluck,
Paul

Thanks for the reply :)

Yeah, its a loud rattle and chugs a bit when cold, but is still noticeable when its warmed up and you put your foot down. i havent thought to check that far up the system.

I'll start it cold with the bonnet open and try to track down where the noise is coming from!

I know mine's got a cat as this was replaced in the service history (cost a bomb!) does this mean its a different system?

Hey no problem, your system is probly the same as mine but you have a cat instead of the first muffler i have, just do a thorough check when its running,it could be somthing simple!

Goodluck!.
