I start the car after class to go home and the it make a Mustangish/truckish rumble with the exhuast, not usual. The idle is all wierd and hestitant when i gas the car. First i though it was the MAS but the car sounds alot different so i dont know. Then my friend says it might be the spark plugs since it sound very unusual. That makes some sense since i just cleaned the engine bay last week and might of got some water in there.

What do you think it might be??? should i just change all the plugs and then see if its the MAS since there relativiely cheap, and it almost time anyways?? If so then what kinda pluggs??

I went to Autozone to read the code, but they stopped it b/c CARB said they were cutting into small auto shops.

Thanks a lot for the help.

That is EXACTLY the problem i have. I changed my plugs and it only helped for a few days then back to the badness. so i plan on changing the coil packs and then if not i will change the direct fuel injectors then last if that does not work its to the MAS.

You know guys guessing game will cost more money to repair.
I got the same situation like a couple of weeks ago with my E-class. It will start but won't idle good and the sounded like what you just described. Do not turn your headlights on or else it will blow out all your bulbs. Replace your spark plugs 1st and see if it changes and if not your alternator is the one causing it. Coz that's what I've replaced and needed a new battery aset of headlights bulbs and a new wiring harness. Not including what I've replaced initially w/c is a overload relay, MAS and spark plugs. :( ;)

HPull out the coil ends located underneath a coil pack. The ends look like a bbtea straw but it's rubber. It sits between the plug and coil pack. Those are very very common failure in a M104. 10 bucks eacht o replace i believe. I had to change then once so far. I think if you see some rust/reddish stuff in the ends, time to replace. Also, is there a vlue mark on your coil pack? if so, those are the 'old' defective ones. Replace with new. Your coil packs and wires should not need to be changed.

nope 1 bengi is more than i can afford right now, but on the other hand the mechcanic show me what to look for and ways to diagnose my car so next time i can fix it my self, So i'll consider it a lesson i paid for instead so it doesn't hurt so bad.

Yeah, the more you read/learn the better you understand.

I've spend like 3 weeks reading every page of mercedesshop.com up the m104 engine. I think I know every single aspect of the engine now :P hehehe

well it came on again a few hours after it was fresh outta the shop, this time was an idleing problem the resonator flop broke. Its the thing under that black box in the middle of the intake manifold. But apparently thats not the only thing wrong, they have to do some more tests to check it out as the idleing is still there. Hopefully something cheap and easy to repair.

Thanks for listening to me mope about me car problems :(

ack..noooo

Idling..things to check is carbon build up in the EGR tube. There's an update tube from MB that should correct this problem.

As well, are there any color markings on the coil packs itself? if so..what color?

Also, do you have the codes for the cel light?

Rocky,

What is the EGR tube?? what does EGR stand for? I think mine on my car may be clogged so that is why i have irregular idle.

EGR Emission Gas Recirculation I believe. It's nothing but hot exhaust gas to warm up your intake manifold.

It's a round puck looking thing. Do more searches on mercedesshop and read any M104 post.

OKay i think the worst is behind me, the part i changed was all broken up and fell into the intake manifold and was floating around and blocked the intake valve causing it to misfire and make a pluck sound. They took it apart and removed the piece. I'll post pictures up today tommorow or tonite. I am so past broke now after this, and i need new tires too really bad. :( :( :(

Hopefully everything is ok now. Thanks for the help and suggestions I'll probably play with that on my own later on.

Elvir,

Find a new shop to do your gasket. It shouldn't cost $1000 just for head gasket + Labor!

yea i know they wanted i think $700 for the head gasket, but they also charged me for a brand new water pump, and labor for that too

ok heres the piece that cost me 500+ to fixe and repair.

its call the resonnace flap valve.

this is how it looked when they took it out of my car.
http://www.caoinc.net/pics/rfv.jpg

these are the pieces that were floating inside the intake manifold that cost 250 to remove and get those little pieces out.
http://www.caoinc.net/pics/rfv_3.jpg

this is how it should look if it wasn't broken.
