View Full Version : Rubbing problem

Hi guys..

first of all I'd like to share what I have fitted in my car.
it's got:
19" Carlsson 1/6 (8.5" at the front, 10" rear)
235/30/19 fr and 245/30/19 rear
H&R springs (uncut)
#2 pads all around.

some pics:

rite...now..the problem..as you can see in the pic, the car isn't too low. But the front rubs the inner part of the fenders while turning on a bumpy road. And it did pretty badly.

A bodyshop suggested that the body needs widening (of course..they want business). I'm not prepared to have my baby butchered. And the second suggestion is to fiddle around with the front camber to make the wheels lean more inside the fenders. Some said that mercs front camber isnt adjustable but I know a guy who can make this possible. What I'd like to know...will this help?

I'd appreciate any suggestions and comments

thanks

PS: lifting up the height of my car is out of the question so I'm after other solutions :)

Camber can be changed, but I would see what your measurements are first to know how to change it. Is your fender lip rolled? I have the same size but it does not rub.

It's either your tires in the front are too wide. Try 225/30/19.

agreed with JRE. what are the offsets on your carlsson wheels? should be stamped on the back of the rims with an "ET35" or something similar.

yes your offset or the tires are too wide

im not sure if this will help.
but on my *18's* it would rub with 235s on but when i went to 225s it was fine.
245 is narrow tires to run on 10" rims, must be hella stretched drift style :-)

wow..thanks for the replies guys

is my fender rolled? nope..not yet...but I dont see how fender rolling helps solve the problem. Unless it involves 'pulling' the fender outwards so it gives more room for the tyres. But it's worth a try

not really sure abt the offset..i think it's somewhere b/w 32 - 35mm

Rolling can do 2 things. 1 pull the fender out more and 2 flatten the lip on the inside of the fender to give you more room.

change to 225 and you should be ok...

I think I'll give fender rolling a shot first to just at least reduce the problem. My fronts are relatively new so I'll probably keep 'em for a little while.
I really appreciate your help.

BTW...OCKlassevery nice benz u got there..what's the offset of your wheels? good job, mate :)
