Tranny is dead, i think?

well i after searching many threads, i didn't find any real conclusions to my problem, other than i need to get looked at.
it's a 98 230, auto. 170,000 miles never changed the tranny oil. (was going to though)

this just started, whenever i come to stop the car doesn't really want to go (kinda if you don't take out the clutch right on a manual car). it also is making a clicking noise when on, ok loud clicking noise:(
i'm not driving the car to prevent any further damage.
i guess the question is really, how much am i looking at:bored:

Try an oil change first, it would be the cheapest thing to do at this point.

too late for that i just came ou of an autotranny class and i cant think of any thing wrong

FYI, my 280's auto tranny was around 4500$ CDN done at the dealership.

paid $2400 2 months ago for a rebuilt tranny with the updated part that is notorious for breaking. the shop showed me what it was but i forgot what it was called. they had dozens of huge boxes filled with these broken parts out of mb trannies. rebuilt tranny came with 2yr/24k mile warranty.

i hear metal clacking sounds but its when putting it into gear which is somewhat normal.

In the very cold winter i had it slipping out of gear when pulling away from a stoplight but the car wasnt warmed up yet.

Fluid was changed last yr at 55k

well if it's more than a certain amount of money (i don't know how much yet) i well probaably sell it :confused: don't know yet. all possibilities are options right now

is mandatory to put the mb fluid in the tranny or can we substitue something else?
