I need some touch up paint for my front bumper. There is a line that is vertical next to the License plate, few inches to the right. The scratch is pretty deep and its pretty wide...
I haven't tried my local auto parts store yet because I looked on their site and they don't carry Mercedes paint code or paint.
I have a 1997 Black C280 and I believe the paint code is 040[?]
I have looked at www.paintscratch.com
And they carry touch-up pens with no clear coat. The question is, do I need to clear coat it after I put some of their touch up paint on?
Have anyone bought touch-up paint from the dealer? Is it mixed with clear coat? Pen or brush?
Is there any procedure to do things like this? like primer, sanding, paint and clear coat?
I will try and get a picture up later.
EDIT:
Found this on eBay.

Is 9040 the same as 040?

I've got a few scratches like that, and the only real way to get it fix is to take it to a pro body shop, THAT KNOWS WHAT TYPE OF PAINT! the touch up paint is pretty good, but expensive, i paid about 15 dollars and thats will my dealer discount. it comes in a brush, if you don't know you paint code, just call the dealership up and give them your vin number, and they'll be able to order you up some.

unless your respraying your whole bumper dont even think about sanding and clear coat for a scratch!
Just use the brush on touch up paint from the dealer. clear coat dont worry about....its gonna look a hell of a lot better from more than 2 feet away and its cheap and easy....you basically just want to cover the white showing through with black, dont worry about trying to get a perfect smooth finish as you never will with touch up paint, but it still makes it look better than a big white scratch on a black car!

Hmm. I think I will try the dealer.. Or that eBay link? How much did they charge you for a bottle, Cru328prod ?
The reason I asked if Clear Coat mixed in will be different from regular base coat paint is that when I helped a friend re do his bumper, the paint was dull looking. It was only after clear coat it matched the car. Also with the help of rubbing compound..

i got mine from the dealership, spruce green. a totally different shade of green. the picture on the paint was the same, but a more darker and more visable paint . really pissed me off.

LMAO thats why u give them the vin number, but yet again there is such a thing as paint fading and oxidation
