So here is what is left after a guy ran a stop sign. The car is a 97 c280 with 71K on the odometer. The frame is swung as you can see the passenger side fender bulging. Airbags didn't pop and no SRS warning light. I figure this is bordering on being a total write off.

That sucks, man! Hopefully you will get a good settlement so you can start trolling church parking lots to find another newer 202 with less miles that has been a "garage queen" which some elderly lady is now trying to sell ;)

Actually, pretty funny you say this as this is my dad's car (my C36 is in the background) and he mainly drives it to ..............church. I was impressed at how well the car held up in the crash and how both doors opened without a problem even with the tweeked front end.

That neighborhood looks familiar. If your located in SF is that the Outter Sunset District? I've seen a silver C36 around...

Inner Sunset....I have seen another silver C36 in the West Portal area so it is either that car or me that you are seeing. Mine has the updated tails and running either AMG 170 or C32 rims.

have you seen a silver C230 thats lowered and rims around? I seen one on 19th & Taraval and this other Silver W202 debadged with W203 sport rims. the fat 5 spokes one?

What are you going to do with your W202 now?

What car hit you?

I have seen the Silver 202 with the rims near Taraval as well but not the one with the 203 rims. We'll tow the car to the body shop on Monday and see what they say. If it is a write off then it is gone...I don't have the time or the place to part the car out. I will remove the updated tails and the 18" rims are already off. The other car was a POS Mitsubishi Mirage. At least the Benzo got one good hit in as it pushed the pillar in so much the door had a 2" gap where it meets the door opening.

...there's plenty of 202 fish in the ocean! I know, I see about 90% of people driving 202s to be old ladies :o

Stick it with a fork.....it is done. Now the fun begins with haggling with the insurance company over what the car is worth. I was hoping to save this car from the scrappile but...oh well. I'll be swapping out a few parts that ad $0 to the Blue book value in the next day or so (CLK alloys, smoked tails, factory fake CF trim, etc). Here is the car in it's former glory.

Thanks. It looks like the insurance company settlement is very fair. Due to the age of 202's out in the market....I think a W203 will be the replacement. The C230 Sport Sedan looks really nice and the prices have dropped significantly.

Noooo!! not a W203!!!

trust me on this one those sport packages may look nice but after 50-90K on the clock the car runs like shit I know this I drive at least 5-10 differnt ones in a day!! go W211 !

I have to ask tho, what's the damage? doesn't look like enough to right the car off...

Both frame rails have a bend as well as the front apron. It really comes down to the value of the car vs. the dollars it would take to fix. I was told by the shop that this is a texbook repair, but because these cars are sub $10K it doesn't take much to total them out.

frame dammage is a reall pain in the ass, and very expensive to fix, so if the car is under 10 thousand its usualy not worth it, that said its funny how different insurance companies are, over here they rarely write the car off, they attempt to fix everything, in my accident, the insurance shelled about 4 thousand dollars to fix my car (remember prices and labour in lebanon are much times cheaper than the us), if i was to have my accident in the states it would have been a sure write off, this accident you had in the pic would have been fixed..propably valued at 1500-2000 dolalrs due to frame dammage

You are right. It basically came down to the labor hours needed to get the frame straight and hang all the new sheet metal. The final estimate was $9,300. to repair. Such a shame as the car was in pristine shape. I wonder if this car will in fact get parted out or if someone will buy it from the insurance company and "fix" it.
