Hey 202ers

I have decided that the problem with my C36 is a bad MAS. Check engine light, Weird fuel smell in the morning. Poor acceleration and violent and uneven idel. Now i know Mercedesshop.com has them for pretty good price is there any other stores any body has had experience with and sells cheap parts??

Its easy instillation i will just follow Juns from his Thread when he changed his.

regards

J nolte

Yes! I bought my alternator there and I shipped back the damaged one to get back my core charge. Now I got to wait if they credited my cc for the core.

Hey J, you don't need to follow any instructions on replacing the MAS. It is the easiest thing to change out of your car.

Why do you need the star screwdriver?

Mang..you have to change the whole tubing including the sensor. DUH.

You just have to unclip the one side and unscrew the other side that holds the sensor to the tube. Then you unplug the wire that goes to it and plug the new one in clip it and then screw to tighten the tubing

Sounds like your trying to change the actual sensor?

The sensor is connected to a tube. You don't have to remove the sensor. The MAS is the sensor including the tube.

BTW, how do you know it's your MAS? It's not cheap to do an Italian Tune Up on a Benz, especially a C36.

I got an extra one. please post the part number on your current sensor. and take some pictures of the sensor itself. I just want to make sure it is the correct one.

Is that plug that goes into the MAS round or oval?

The plug on the 1997 MAS PNSJI has is oval. I know for sure the C280's are round, just not sure about previous AMG cars prior to 1997.

jnolte,

Please try the suppresors 1st before you drop over 3-6 bills on an un-needed MAS. Stealerships are quick to blame the MAS or ECU like my C36 when it ran like crap only b/c the techs are idiots! Here is what you need I think....(3) @ 15 bucks(one for each coil) apiece should get the car running smooth again!! I went round and round w/ the stealership and all it was was the wire ends or 'suppressors/resistors'. Whatever people like to call them different things but they give your ignition system the actual rated resistance it needs. Once they get old like every 30 - 50K miles they throw off the resistance & the ECU thinks the car is misfiring so it goes into limp home mode where the car will shudder b/c it turns off an injector or two!

OK dude, here are the pics of the ends from Fastlane on mercedesshop......I transfered it to my host cause it wouldnt pull up on its own........I know its hard to see but notice the electrical 'ribbon' with the multiple wires coming out of the tip...this is more than just a spark plug end. It provides resistance to ignition system and thats why you have non-resistance plugs!

My dealer tried MAS, & plugs & no fixey! The dealer MB Houston North actually delivered my car w/the MAS not even tightened to the ducting on either side! I caught it before I hit the freeway and bitched them out man! After that I was like "F*&k the dealer" A respectable long time indie shop found it easily and fixed it including labor for like $200.00, but you can do it yourself for $44.00!!!!!

Here is the pick of your valve cover you'll be workin with......

I believe this 90 deg end on the side of the coil(top) is what you replace(maybee I'm wrong...its possible they are under the coil???) Believe it or not these 3 things are what control the voltage in your ignition system and actually go to dog doo doo after a while.
