Mine is a really loud "bang" when releasing, it depends how hard I hard I pressed the handbrake on though, if it was just one click on it was alot quieter to release than if I had pushed it down further.

I tend to put it on gently when parked on a flat road but if on a hill will push down further!

to avoid any bang, clap or what ever sound from releasing the e-brake->
just put your left foot ON the e-brake lightly, and release the e-brake by hand and lightly let off your left foot.

this way, the e-brake isnt hitting anything while your releasing it.

hope this helps.
