Revs high on start [Archive]

What would cause my motor to rev high on initial cold start? Revs up to around 3k rpm real quick before falling back down. Only on cold starts? I'm guessing a sensor needs replacing?

Thoughts?

Mine revs to about 2500 in first and second gear when the engine is cool. I was under the impression that this is just how our cars heat up quickly?
My brothers bmw 320i e36 does the same thing.
Isn't it normal?

its normal, the car is fine after it shifts to 2nd.

I suspect a vacuum leak also, time to get the mitivac.

My car revs to about 2500rpm on start up, and it's been that way since we had it. Once it warms up, it only revs to about 1500 on start up.
