i have a 1994 c280 with the bose system and an alpine hu. i am going to buy a rear deck with the bose subs off of ebay. what i was wondering is can i just wire these up to the existing 2 bose subs, or is it more complicated? and they look like they would just pop in where the empty opening is for the phone speaker and foam baffle. this seems like a quick and easy way to add a little more bass to my car and i would be able to crank it up with less distortion. and suggestions would be helpful and appreciated!

????? are you buying some more speakers for the rear deck? as for adding more speakers to a factory set up would not suggest adding more speakers to the factory amp but if the speaker impedence in 4ohms you might add a after market amp to those speakers, better yet add a amp to run all four if ya like. this way the power will be similar all the speakers at the same time. if i was you i would stay away from the bose factory and replace them with after market and possible a amp to run them ..

yes i was planning on adding 2 oem subs to the system, and placing them in 2 empty locations in the rear deck. they are 2 ohms. this i dea i have would only cost around 50bucks, so it seems like a cheap and easy way to add some low end. i have a 500watt 4ch sony amp laying around could i use that, is that what you were talking about? as for just using the stock amp, you don't think it would work?

i dont think you can use an aftermarket amp to power the stock speakers... since you said the rear deck is empty,i am assuming your gonna just put on the bose speakers in there, you can use the stock amp for those. that is what i have right now but im planning to take out everything for a newer set up.

the rear deck speakers blow. what you need to do is remove them, and get a sub in the trunk. the speakers removed will serve as good port for your new sub.

You are able to add 2 more Bose subs without a issue. Many have done it in the W210 which contains the same type of 6" so called subs.
Otherwise like I said, get the Infinity Basslink.

yeah, i would get the infinity basslink, but i am going away to college, and need to spend money on other things. i just cant see spending 300-600 on a subwoofer and an amp, when i would rather buy some koni's:D
ocklass, i know they blow, but with 4 maybe they wont blow as much, lol. its just a little project for me to do. what my car has is on sub on the left, a phone speaker on the middle left, an empty hole with a foam baffle on the middle right, then another sub on the right. all the holes are the same so i could drop 2oem subs into the two middle spaces. then i would just wire the new subs to the old subs, now having four. i know this sounds dumb, but what i am ordering off of ebay is the whole rear deck, the subs and 3rd brake light for 50bucks so even if my plan does'nt work out. ill have a 3rd brake light incase mine decides to break. lol

Yeah, my bro's C43 has them, and they still suck IMO. The car just sounds so much better with an actual aftermarket subwoofer (such as a JL).

well ill try these out, and i will let you guys know how they work and maybe ill post up some pics of the install! thanks for all your feedback. i must say the bose subs are pretty good for a oem system from 1994. so with 2 more i should be getting what i want, more bass for cheap:D

I know someone said it was possible to do this, but wont adding more speakers to the existing system change what the final impedance to the amp is (wont matter if it's within the amps range)? And if the way you wire them up changes the impedance to something higher than what it was it was the amp will produce less power and may even sound worse. Also depending on how you are planning on wiring them to power them (Parallel or Serial) it may not even play. This doesn't seem to be as cut and run to me as it may seem to you.
But I could be wrong and it could be completely possible, and be better.

well, what i was planning on doing was some basic trial and error, just play with it until it works kinda stuff. but i understand exactly what you are saying, maybe someone here can clear it up for me. i have hooked a home theater sub up to the rear deck speakers before and that seemed to work ok, just not really a permanent solution, lol

Taken from a post regarding this same matter in, Benzworld but on W210 which is the same setup:
This is really cool and it has also made a tremendous difference in the quality of music. Especially the type I listen to. This Moddification will provide you with crisp bass at high and low volumes. Hell, it makes my mirrors shake :-).
Ok, so in the rear deck there are 2 stock 6 1/2" bose woofers. Thats standard for the E-Class.
Well, right next to each speaker, there is one extra speaker hole with no speaker and just covered up by foam.
What I have done, I cut approximatley a 6 inch hole in the foam (note: NOT 6 1/2" but 6" this; this is critical for the instalation).
After that, I placed a 6 1/2" Mercedes bose speaker into each slot on both sides. The bottom lip of the speaker MUST be touching the metal and the foam MUST be covering the top part of the lip in order to hold the speaker down and to prevent rattling (Glue on the lower part of the lip is opptional).
When speakers are in place, just tap the wires from your new speakers to the speaker next to it. Just some simple crimping involved and thats all.
Finally, after about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, you are ready to enjoy your new system.
I will post pictures uppon request, other than that, i suppose my instructions are self explanitory.
P.S. If you can and choose, the inputs/outputs on the amplifier for the E-class are the same as the S-class, just a plastic pin setting/security difference which you can snap off. My point is that the S-class amp has more power than the E-class amp therefore more power to the speakers. (Do this at your own risk! I know speakers and amps because i install. but this is has not been verifyed by me yet. I have tryed it a long time ago, but i dont remember the outcome on this experiment. I know that it did not damadge anything on my car, that much i know)

Just don't burn your amp up. Good Luck.

thanks alot benzonline! i dont understand what he was talking about with the foam, but whatever. i always wondered about that putting a higher powered bose amp in my car, they all seem to have the same mounts/inputs/outputs. thanks again

I dont think you can, they are all different and made for a specific car and are roughly all the same power. I find it loud enough.

well i may have ran into a problem anyway,(this always seems to happen!!) the seller says that one of the subs seems to make crackling sounds when hooked up to an audio source, he wasn't sure if he was "doing something wrong" so i guess ill see what else he says:( :(
