View Full Version : Has Anyone Installed a Sprintbooster?

I did a search for "sprintbooster" and nothing came up. The threads that came up when searching for "sprint booster" seemed to be about supersprint products.

Has anyone tried this device? The UK MB forums have people who love it. One of the other US MB forums has positive reports. Same with the Crossfire users (based on MB). Just wondered if anyone here has tried it out. From what I have read, it eliminates the notorious MB throttle lag and brings on the power much faster. It doesn't increase horsepower, it just gets the engine producing it faster to the wheels. Less take-off lag, faster kickdowns, better response. It seems like supercharged engines may benefit the most since it gets the engine powered up faster (and thus the SC kicks in sooner).

Looks like the install for the w202 is in the engine bay and takes 5 minutes.

The UK group was able to get a group buy for around $250. It is available in the U.S. on Ebay for 280.00. Kind of pricey.

i found it on ebay...although it sounds good , for that price i really dont think it will be worth...how much faster can it really be... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sprint-Booster-BDD451A-Mercedes-Benz-Crossfire-Auto-T_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33597QQihZ020QQitemZ3 00118679065

would it be any better then having to manually grab the desired gear ?

are our cars "drive by wire"? i am able to see a throttle cable on the throttle body and am able to move it and make the engine rev higher. can somebody clear this up? i am guessing this product just shortens/firms up all the shifts and increases throttle sensitivity?

>>would it be any better then having to manually grab the desired gear ?<<

Grabbing the gear would help with shifts but not with throttle response. Don't you notice how much more sensitive throttles seem on other vehicles when you drive them after a w202?

>> i am guessing this product just shortens/firms up all the shifts and increases throttle sensitivity?<<

That what it seems like according to people who have installed it.

If you want to read 32 pages of posts from people commenting on it, read this thread. They start off talking about w203s and question whether it will work with w202s and SLKs. Further into the thread people confirm it will work with the w202s. The 202s are actually even more simple to install since you do it in the engine bay. At the time I am posting this, the mbclub server seems to be very slow to load.

SprintBooster, is made by Boulekos Dynamic, a greek company...

It uses electrical signals to open the throtlebody's clump faster...

Here in Greece, it costs around 150 euros

Here pics of a friend who installed it at his SLK :

>>any pix ?<<

Yes, in that thread. It shows the connection for the w203 and w202.

since when are our cars drive by wire?...I don't think this works for our cars.

I was reading some people installed this on their C43's and it has been confirmed there is a plug for this sprintbooster in the engine bay next to the access point for the battery, wouldn't mind trying it out if it fits updated non amg c class.

I was hoping somebody more knowledgeable would have stepped in here by now, but aren't our cars considered "drive by wire" in the sense the the accelerator cable goes in to the engine bay where it interfaces with a pentiometer-like device that translates the cable's movement into an electrical signal which is fed to the actuator in the throttle body?

My understanding from reading the previously mentioned thread is that the sprint booster is inserted before the actuator and then amplfies/adjusts the signal so that there is better throttle response.

doesn't work with our cars.
give it up.

My '95 is not drive by wire, it uses a cable which extends to the throttle-linkage underneath the intake manifold, so it won't work for the pre facelifts...donno bout the facelifts

Ah, ok ... Read the thread and you will see people are getting it to work with w202s.

I don't know about the older w202s but here is where it is hooked up on the engine that is in a w202 C230 Kompressor:

Find where the accelerator cable comes into the engine bay:

Disconnect the connection and insert the sprint booster between connectors A and B.

see, i dont have that in my car, so is that car or any 202 "drive by wire" in that the pedal is not connected to the throttle body.

ohh, i see now, you guys and your gay updated models always have all the fun, lol:D thats why i am installing an afterburner and wings. should give a healthy boost in 0-60 times;)

my update doesn't have it in the engine bay, haven't checked the pedal but.

Hahaha! Don't forget to add a grab hook so you can land it on a Carrier. :)

A lot of people don't like it because it doesn't give predictable application of power, i.e. a non-linear throttle response. Here's to date 12 pages & 500+ posts of people arguing about it... <lol> What would we do w/o the interwebz...

I would like to add that I just installed one today, and took the car for a drive. While I did feel an improvement in throttle response. There were times when the throttle felt like it took a bit longer to respond. So I'd have to agree with the "non linear" throttle response.
