Earlier tonight @ about 10:00 pm I was driving about 75 mph in the second lane on the EB 580 in the Eastbay when I felt my car jerk and then lose power. I tried accelerating but it seemed that the car was off, lights were still on. I was able to pull off to the shoulder with the momentum the car already had (just enough to cross 3 lanes of traffic). I tried to start it but nothing. I even disconnected the battery and tired again without results. The engine does crank, but it seems that fuel does not reach it. Possible fuel pump failure? Finally the car was towed to a friends house nearby.
So now after ariving home at about 2:30 am, I am asking for any suggestions or advice as to what could be wrong or any repairs that are suggested. Any one had simalar problems? Anything would be appreciated.

Have you had any recent situations where your car started fine in the morning but after you drove it a while and then shut it off it would not start easily? If so and given your description, one thing you might want to check is the crank position sensor.

This is the first time that this has ever happened. It has always started up fine, ath the first turn of the key. There were no sighs of anything wrong on startup or while driving. The only thing that I noticed was a soft jerk right before losing acceleration. Everything seemed to be on and working, but while trying to accelerate, there was no reaction. No warning lights came on as if the engine had shut off.
I had the exact same symptom earlier this year. The culprit was two failed coil packs. No hint of problem before they failed.

Replaced fuel pump and filter. Everything is back to normal! Thanks for your advice.
