I searched but to no avail....

The light in my dash that indicates a lamp is out, blinks.

Only when parking lights or headlights are on, only when car is running. It flickers on every 3 seconds or so, and it's consistent. At first I thought possibly a loose connection or something the like that, but the consitency rules that out.

What could it be?

I think I recall a LONG time ago on benzsport.com there was discussion (if all the bulbs check a-ok) that the brake-light-switch could be failing or have a dirty contact causing intermittent connection. It might be a possible area to check.

hmmm....where exactly is that located? in the pedal cluster?

First check all your bulbs and make sure that all the bulbs are working.

done.

well, not quite. My driver's side integrated fog light has been out for about 6 months but never triggered the ELF.

I will have to give it another once over and verify that my 3rd and my reverse lights are working. According to the manual the ELF only illuminates when that particular bulb is being...."summoned"

Okay I checked all the bulbs, and they all worked.
I took out the headlight bulbs and fog light bulbs, cleaned them, and switched them. Now both my fogs work....

The ELF light in the dash still blinks. Sometimes it's constant, sometimes not. I feel like yanking my hair out with this.

Where is the brake switch? I am going to check that out next and if that doesn't fix it then I'll just drive the damn thing off a cliff.

Check your 3rd brake lightbulb, located in middle of your
rear deck. (behind the First aid box)

good luck

Don't forget to check your license plate bulbs. They are often overlooked. I know that'll turn on the light on newer ones, and I think it'll turn on the light on ours too.

OHHHH man i never even thought about those. I did check the 3rd brake light, and i know where it's located.

I figured the switch was at the brake pedal, but the pivot point of the cluster is inside the lower part of the dash. Just making sure there isn't a more readily available remote location rather than dismantling it.

the light fixed itself awhile back...until today

it's not really consistent, it'll either be constantly on or it'll quickly flicker every 1-2 seconds. I never figured out what it was because it just stopped one day.

But I noticed it today after changing my CPS.
BTW That was fun. Had to yank it out with some locking pliers w/ heavy duty grips. WTF.
