speaker caught fire!!!

the other day i noticed the left rear door speaker wasnt working on my 95 c36. i didnt have time to check it out to see why it wasnt working. so today as i was goin down the highway i'm smelling smoke so in a hurry i pulled over and sure enough my door panel was on fire. luckily i stopped the fire. i took the door panel and speaker out and so far no problem. i have never heard of this happening the car only has 91k on it and stock speakers and amp. it would suck losing a car to a damn short in the voice coil of a cheap speaker.

wow your lucky that is nice car, so was it literly on fire like you saw flames or just smoking

yeah i mean real flames theres a hole in the panel where the speaker belongs and theres only the metal part of the speaker. someone told me the amp screwed up and was sending to much current to that speaker.

yeah the bose factory speaker all original. i grabbed the first thing i started wackin it with windshield shade wich was folded in the back seat, but that wasnt doin the job so believe it or not i blew it out like a candle. luckily it was not a fire in the dash or somewhere that could not be reached. i'm gonna try to get a hold of a camera so i can post some pics.

actually i now have my fire extinguisher in the trunk cause you never know right.

I would go after Mercedes or Bose....if its all original and not tampered with it shouldnt happen as its a safety factor.
