View Full Version : Rough Initial Start, but Normal Driving?

When I first start the car, I feel half a second of hesitation and the car feels like it is going to stall (the revs bouncing between 500 and 1550rpm) and then after that, the car is completely normal. At stop lights, there is no hesitation and the revs do not bounce, it runs as smooth as can be. The hesitation is only on startup. Any ideas?

I get that as well. Sometimes I gotta give it a little gas to give it a clean start.

Just let it be, its an old car, no reason to tamper with the engine bay and get unnecessary things messed with

Changed those to iridiums with Magnecor wires about 15,000 miles ago.

I guess, but I have 92,XXX miles, it doesn't have that many. Nenad, can you chime in?

mine did that when the 1st MAF was going out. The only difference is it wouldn't run worth a damn until I let it sit and warm up for a good amount of time.

since your nearing 100k those MAF sensors usually need to be replaced unless you did that already or did a relocation of it. maybe a fuel filter needing replacement? as far as the plugs go i was reading some where that our engines require copper plugs? since you have been using those plugs have you seen any improvements?

I noticed a smoother idle after installing them. That's pretty much it.

hmm...probably in a few months I'm going to replace my fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and my fuel injectors. Hopefully that fixes it. Something else I've noticed is that it does not do this on a cold start, but when the car has bee previously warmed up.
