1999 C43 with 83,xxx miles

As i was driving a few days ago my BAS/ESP and ABS light came on. I went to my mechanic who I know and trust. He told me that my yaw rate sensor was probably malfunctioning. He cleared the code and told me to bring it back if it came back on.

The same day the lights came back on so I brought the car back. He had the car for a while and when I got back to him he told me that the sensor was bad and that it needed to be replaced.

I asked him how much the sensor was (figuring it was like $500 or something) and he tells me that he could not find the sensor for any less than $2600!

Has anyone had any problems with this sensor? Has anyone had to replace it? Could this sensor possibly cost $2600? It seems a little ridiculous to me.

What is YAW RATE SENSOR?

Perhaps you should do more research.

The yaw rate sensor is part of the ESP (electronic stability protection or whatever) system which is part of the whole ABS and ASR system. My understanding is that it helps detect when the car is not pointing in the same direction as that of forward motion (e.g. in a slide).

You need the part number before you can start researching. Did he give you a part number? Here is the diagram for the ESP system components:

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=202093&M=113%2E944&GA=722%2E631&CT=F&cat=45H&SID=54&SGR=695&SGN=26

My guess is that it could be the sensor that plugs into the cable harness for the yaw sensor (011) but I don't know.

This is a back-office operation for an MB dealer with prices lower than most dealers:

These people remanufacture parts for ABS systems, so they may do ESP stuff too:

went to the dealer today to get the part number and to see how much the part is and where its located.

Part # is 000-542-65-18 (it is also called a "turn rate sensor"). Its located in the trunk under the plastic cover thats right behind the rear seats...and guess what, the dealer price is $2879.20.

I looked up the part number on ebay and I found one for $179.00:confused:

I dont know if I should trust ebay on this one...im confused.

Get a no DOA guarantee and pay with a credit card for the ebay item. I think that for $179 I would give it a try if the item looks legit and the seller has a good reputation rating.
