yea this really sucks...i cant drive over 50 without it touching the window...it looks so ghetto...if i were to get a new one, which i will, how much of a bear is it to put it on with the spring attached because the screws are difficult to get to on the other side, and how would i go about getting the white one painted?

easy i took off my driver side mirror with the spring its still easy and i pretty sure that the cover " the part thats painted" comes of separately from the glass mirror

The mirror cover comes off seperatley from the mirror, motor and mounting bracket. If you bend the mirror towards the front of the car you will see a metal "U" shaped clip/bracket that you pull on with a set of pliers to release the cover. You can then remove the whole assembly with the spring attached by the three phillips heads holding it on. Then you just have to unplug the motor.

Is the cover damaged or do you just need the internals such as the bracket and spring?

i looked inside like this little black tube looking thing and i saw the spring wayyy down in there....the cover is fine, all i need is the internal hardware, the best way to describe which part broke is where the springs comes out of that tube and connects to a metal lip of some sort, that metal lip has been broken and is hanging down...but what about this idea, what if i could weld that piece back, then take the cover off and then re connect the spring?

fixed, ripped the broken piece off and drilled 2 holes, and then wrapped a piece of stainless wire about 4 times through the hole and then re connected the spring...works so far, im nervous to go through the car wash...
