i was approuched by the kenwood rep and was telling me there is a new product out by at autosport that actually will convert your oem keyless into a security/convenience upgrade... its a module that plugs into the data bus on 2000 and up mercedes that use the infra red key.... it increases the range from 30 inchs to 150 feet or more new features include one button operation of the following ..opening and closing windows , sunroof, convertable tops, headlights, car finder, and audio confirmation. it is recognized by the sercurity system as a factory accessory. so it wont trip sensors on the can bus. in addition it provides other options as reverse, door trigger, and shock sensor input, keyed ignition...it takes about 20 minutes to install and no programming is required..he said mercedes offers it from about 900 dollars and up but he can sell me one for 300.00 since mine is a 1999 i m not sure if it will work but just throwing something out there for you people who want better range and better security to your car...

30" ?

Mine works over 20 ft atleast. I park 4 parking spots away from the security door & can lock/unlock & put the windows up/down. I havent had a reason to try it any farther then that.

But what he was refering to I believe is for the 2001-up W203, NOT 2000-up.

ask him if he's willing to let u try it risk free. if it does it sounds like a good idea.

as far as the distance goes can you roll your windows up from 30 feet away? or 150 away? i know on mine i can lock it from about 10 to 15 but it includes windows , tops etc....i spoke to the rep and he said it would check into the specifics and models it will work with....it doesn't do remote start... as far as risk free he said 300 would be the best he can do....the manufacture is AT Autosports

ok rep called me back in 1999 they started a transition on the data bus soooo your car may have it ,it may not but 2000 up cars with inflared keys it should work. the only models they dont work on are the S series and the CL series...

Hehe... tell us how it goes using your key! I would love more range like the w203s provide, but at $150 or whatever for a new one, it is a risky project. Additionally, when you open up your key, there isn't nearly as much room like on the key in the video.

If I remember right, the window opening portion is IR so that is why its range is so much shorter than the door locks. I think attaching the remote to one of those 1990 era TV remote extenders using duct tape would be the sweet solution ;)

If you are asking me, YES, I can do windows & doors from atleast the 20-30ft range. I see no need to go any further then that. I do not want to be able to operate the car out of sight. That just leads to bad things.
My window & door sensor, along with being on the door handle itself, is also tied into the rearview mirrow console. How.. I am not sure, but I think it has to do with the sunroof. If I disonnect the entire overhead console with the lights & sunroof controls, I can only operate the window & door lock function by pointing the key at the door. But with the overhead hooked up, just about the sky is the limit. I am still finding all kinds of weird stuiff with this car, that the dealer doesnt even know about. Factory wires for parking sensors, harness for the homelink, compass, ect..
I guess that is why I can only locate 5 of these cars.

No 5 legally titled C28 AMG mercedes cars in the world. Like the C36/C43 are based on the C280 chassis. I have EVERYTHING the C43 has except the V8 & body kit. The car was ordered as a C280 sport..Like all C36/C43 initally. But it was shipped to AMG for the engine, suspension, drivetrain upgrades. The car is LEGALLY a C28 AMG. The total cost of the car new was almost $45,000
Here is info...I think(atleast pics) of a C28, C36 & C43. I cannot read the site, so I am not sure what it says.

Wow! I didn't know that there ever was a C28 AMG. You learn something new every day..

Now only if they made a real C23..
