View Full Version : rear shelf clicking
hi, i've had my 2000 C230 kompressor for just over a month now and ever since my second week of ownership i've had this clicking noise comming from the drivers side of the rear shelf and it's time to fix it. at first i thought it was the medi pack door rattleing so i applied some foam tape to the edges, then i thought maybe it was the speaker grills so i did the same(got rid of a bit off rattle from the grills) but the main noise is still there. i was wondering if anyone can lead me as to how i can take apart the rear deck. thanks in advance.

I get that clicking sound when pulling into a steep driveway....sometimes I think its the sound of the car twisting apart.

It can be so hard to track down sources of noises and rattles in these cars. They really telegraph sounds. You almost have to have someone else drive while you move around the car and find the actual location. I have had the infamous seat/seat belt cover on the side of the passenger seat do its noise thing and when sitting in the driver's seat you would swear it was coming from the back of the car.
Do you have the fold down seats? If so, open and close them a few times. I have to do that every once in a while to chase a noise away.

i belive that might be a recall it is very very commom soud for these cars. If im no misstaken its coming from the dash near the windsheld, i think its somkind of rubbing and to stop this sound the dash has to come completly apart
it's not the dash for sure. my dash is absolutely silent other than my hvac blower whinning. i've had my brother sit in the rear seat while i was driving and confirmed that the creaking sound is from the rear deck. can someone tell me how to take the rear deck apart so that i can attempt to insulate some things. it'll be handy in the future when i do my audio install as well.

Sorry if this is a double post:

thanks guys for all the posts. i figured out what it was. it was the headrest plastic finishers. they had a bit of play in them so i placed some foam tape around the edges and popped them back in and the noise is gone. for the future, if someone has a bodyflex type creak. check the finishers out and see how much you can wiggle them.
