Powerdercoating when done properly is not cheap (usally around 150 a wheel or more depending) if you are on a budget and just itching to do something with your car try spray painting your wheels.

People my scoff at the idea, associating it with cheapness or just plain sillyness, but when done correctly can yeild excellent results.

The key is to prep the wheel correctly with cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. Basically the more time you invest in this step the more better the results will be.

For paint figure 3 cans of color total and 2 cans of clear coat for all 4 wheels. Also they sell different types of clear coats depending on how you want your finish (matte, semi, gloss) also the more clear you put the more glossy and deep you get.

I have done both Powerdercoating and painting and both come out with excellent results. And while Powdercoating is more durable I have noticed no ill effects to my painted wheels.

I'd only consider powercoating them if you were happy with the rims already and not wanting to upgrade later on. You can get black 17/18's cheap enough that there is only going to be a small bit of difference between a quality powercoat job and buying the rims.

Powder for $150 per wheel? That's rather expensive. I paid $75 per wheel, including a clear powder over silver.

Powder coating hides light scuffs on the wheel, but if you scuff a powder coated wheel, you can't do a cheap re-spray, you have to strip and redo the whole wheel.

take a look at my pictures in the members gallery. i painted mine black with a semi-gloss clear coat. (rattle cans)
they have been painted for a bout a year now, and none of them have chipped peeled or faded.
i personally like the stock wheel/tires. you can lower tire pressure and have a nice cushy ride, or pump them up for auto-x.
and if your on a budget like i was. i dont think you would want 18" wheels and have to pay for the tires, if and when you need them.
