Engine numbers?

I was looking for parts, and when I typed in my year and make the following came up for engine code: 113.944.

What does the 944 signify?

speaking from a mechanical point of view, after intense studies at Harvard, it means it has less hp than 113.945 engine

Just a guess but maybe to tell the difference from the other 113 engines?

A E430 while a 113 is a 113.940 and a ML430 is a 113.942

So maybe just to know what kind of 113 it is.
