when i turn on the lower fog lights on my 97 C36, one of them is significantly brighter than the other. is there a wiring issue, or perhaps maybe one of bulbs is about to burn out? also, when i turn on the lower fog lights, one of the tail lights gets significantly brighter. i am thinking this is the euro rear fog light, but i am not 100% sure.

thanks for the help!

PS: what kind of bulbs to the lower fog lights take? (H1, H3, 9007, etc....?)

thanks

Regarding the rear tail-light....that is the rear left foglamp which is illuminated when you turn on the upper or lower front fogs. So that is normal.

its not that i don't want it, i just wasn't sure what it was exactly. i figured it was the rear fog lamp. any know why one of my front lower fog lamps would be significantly dimmer than the other? also, any info about bulbs for headlights and fog lights would be great!

thanks

im sure its just the bulbs crapping out on you.
Im on the hunt to find a OEM looking way to choose if i want the bumper fogs on with my normal fogs or choose to have them on instead of the normal fogs.

The bumper fog lights on my C36 are NOT FOG lights. They are additional driving lights that illuminate automatically when high beam is selected.

The actual fog lights on my car are light bulbs that are integrated into the main headlight assembly.

But then again, my C36 is the Australian version, which is probably closer to the European version than to the USA version.

well, either way, the lamps i am speaking of are the lower bumper lights. i have the other lights that are integrated into the main headlight assembly, but they are working fine. are the lower bumper lights considered "fog lights" or additional driving lights?

i am thinking that the bulbs are just dying on me slowly. what type of bulbs to do the lower lamps take? (H3, H1, 9007, etc....?)

I had to work on one of mine a few weeks ago to eliminate a short circuit (bulb retention clip shorting on assembly) that was blowing the R high beam fuse.

From memory, I'm 90% sure mine are H1 bulbs. (Don't forget, my lower lights are C36 AMG driving lights).

The bulbs are mounted vertically to face upwards and shine through a 90 degree prism that then shines forward through the lens. Trust AMG to come up with an expensive solution!!!

I came across some good photos of the C36 Bumper-mounted Driving Lights in the following site:

I'd say his problem is a feature,
the light on the opposite side of the driver will be dimmer for oncoming traffic,
to avoid dazzling them

ill let you know when I get around to putting HIDS in mine, I believe the bulbs in my 1997 C36 are as follows

Lowbeam H7
High Beam H1
Integrated Fog Light H1
Lower Bumper Fog/Driving Lights H3? These are projector "driving" lights. they go a further distance than fog lights.

H3 is for your fog lights or your lower bumper lights.

Maybe the lights arent level and its making it look like one is brighter than the other, when they're really just pointing in different directions?

100% confirmed H3. Just converted to HID
