when i press the gas all the way i think i hit the kickdown button and the car accelerates faster. is it bad to hit the button? when is it appropriate to press it? what does MB recommend on how to use it properly?

thanks,
Kyle

kyle the kick down button just drops the gearbox down 1 or 2 gears i use it for overtaking really, but it doesent do any damage its jsut like in a mnual car when you drop it a gear for better responce works great in w mode when ya ploddign along and you want a burst of accel...

Yea, use the kickdown switch in S mode for better acceleration. In S mode it holds the gears longer for optimum speed and acceleration. :D

I think most cars have a kickdown switch. All it is, is a little switch that tells the car you want to go faster. So the cars says "ok lets go" and down shifts 1 or 2 gears (depending on speed and rpms) to give you the best acceleration possible.

when u hit the kickdown it revs really high, is that bad for the engine? does the tachometer ever go into the redzone in an automatic transmission? or does the car limit the revs ?
thanks,
kyle

Well there are two modes. W and S. In your car next to the gear stick there is a button that has W and S. In W mode the car starts out in 2nd gear and it doesnt let the car rev to high. In S mode thecar starts out in 1st gear and it lets the car rev all the way just before redline. Your probably in W mode since you said that it wasnt reving that much. So basically W mode is for comfort driving while S is more of sport driving.

rig a toggle so you do not have to press the pedal all the way down ;)

Momentary push switch..drop a gear without having to go full throttle......

Kickdown is engaged from 124,236,234,612 gear and higher to 1st. OK. Enough of me being an ass...

By the way, how's it on gas?

OK, now I'm done.

In your car you do not have the winter/sport mode switch. If you manually shift the car it can go past redline. In D it will not. You will hit a limiter if you go to high.

lol. No, I was born and raised here in Tustin. I'm not exactly sure where we first heard it but my brother and I have been using it since like we were four years old. hmm... maybe I should stop or someone will get the wrong idea. But you know, it'll still slip by now and then. :p

Wait a minute... I wouldn't want to jack now would I.... So yeah Kyles the kickdown switch is to cut people off. lol. :silly:

Lovw that idea...thought of it one day, but idk if i wanna mess around with all that and where will i put my alternate switch.

NOS style (red buttons) on the steering wheel? that would look a lil silly on a benz

or maybe a button under the ignition( that cover that hide the whole steering colomn by knees)

You mean like when the wifey wont stop telling you to "slow down!" or "carefull, you're getting too close to that car!" or "you have to start braking, traffic is slowing down." ???
