ok about 2 weeks ago both my front windows stoped working as in they will not roll down (but both rear work normal). Now just this past saturday my car will not recognize the keyless functions (lock, unlock, trunk, window feature) and when i open the front door, only the rear light goes on automaticlally yet the front light still works when i hit the button.

I just changed the batteries in my key and tried the spare as well and still no luck. im pretty sure the fuses are good as the mechanic just check them. So i am at a Complete loss as to what is going on. has anyone had the same problem or know anything about this??

thanks for the help in advance

i bet its a fuse, check them

I agree with jnolte.

Look very closely at fuse Nos 23 to 27 under the hood for the dome light and infrared central locking system.

PS. The fuse for front window lift is in the trunk just forward of the battery (fuse No 8 in my car).

And tell your mechanic to stop playing with your fuses when he "checks" them!

i checked some of the fuses and they were fine but did not check all so not 100% sure. in case it is not fuse related what else do guys think it could be?

i get that problem. i have to pop out the panel enough to reach in and disconnect the harness from the window box thingy and then evrything works fine. it comes back every now and then. all my fuses are good and i have no idea what it is still.

ryhi,

That seems to be potentially very valuable information to us W202 owners!

Can you tell us the precise location of the "window box thingy"?

Or perhaps a photograph would help!

top right. upper wire harness. just gotta pop out for a second n snap it back in. i dont know what the problem is.. perhaps bad terminals in the window switch?

so i have been messin around with switches to see exactly what does not work and here is my list:
1. Both front windows & Sunroof do not work at all (but rear do work)
2. ALL keyless functions (ie unlock, lock, trunk, auto window up/down)
3. My Rear dome light comes on when the doors open up but can not be turned on by the switch near the mirror
4. Front dome light will not come on with the opening of the doors but can be turned on with the switch.
5. The switch for my side mirrors does not work

outside of fuses, do you guys know what could cause all this. Do you think disconnecting that window harness would fix just the windows or everything?

benzofanatic,

Please tell me that you have:

1. Opened the trunk.
2. Removed the carpet.
3. Taken the fuse cover off.
4. Pulled fuse #8 and checked it for burn through.
5. Replaced it with a good fuse.

...and still the front windows don't work?!!!

ryhi,

Many thanks! We'll scratch our combined heads over that!

UPDATE -
went to the MB dealer and he reset the front driver window but couldnt get the passenger one to work. He checked the fuses and were all good. For some reason i dont have a #8 in the trunk, should i? He also got the keyless functions working again (ie lock, unlock, trunk...)

Still have the problems with the dome lights, side mirrors and passenger window (maybe sunroof to, forgot to check). He said it could be a relay or bad connections some where do you guys agree?

btw James i saw u again today in the back of BCC - the silver 280

Sorry, I should have indicated more clearly that the front power windows on my car are fuse 8 in the trunk. Other W202s may well be different. However, the correct fuse locations etc are listed on a card that is inside the lid covering the fuse box. See photos below. Look closely at the various fuse areas and you will see precisely the problem areas you mentioned.

In the meantime I can tell you that in my fuse box, Nos 1, 3 and 6 are not required and therefore have no fuse. It is likely that your car also has some fuse locations that should be empty.

It is possible that when your Mechanic checked your fuses he put one or more back into locations that were meant to be empty and therefore left other locations without a fuse.

Try to locate the fuse card in your trunk and also the one under the hood and check each fuse location for correct occupancy and fuse amperage rating.

If all seems correct there, I suggest trying a reset of all systems by disconnecting the battery leads and leave them off for 30 minutes. Then reconnect the battery.

Make sure that you DON'T CLOSE THE TRUNK with the battery disconnected!

(If necessary) then try a re-synchronisation of your remote key functions by following the procedure detailed in your Owner Operating Manual.

If that doesn't work, pull out the relays, one at a time, shake them to see if they rattle (rattle - not good), and re-seat them.

took the car into the mechanic and found the problem. the Overhead Control Module (the module with the dome light and sunroof buttons near the rear view mirror) is deffective. Not having this work properly causes all these problems including bad keyless recpetion. I guess it comunicates with the windows and stuff so if its bad then everthing else has problems.
Sadly the part cost $519
