My engine is wrapping up high miles and I'm thinking of a swap soon. Very interested in the 1995 E420 at 275hp. Good pricing too that I've seen. But since I'm new to the mercedes concept of cars, do any of you know if this motor will drop right in the w202 chassis?? If not, details would be greatly appreciated. Also, what other motor (direct drop swap) will be worth the money and smoggable in CA. The C36 is just more costly.

it would be a drop-in if you have a C280. the 6 and 8 cylinders share the same mounts. you'd need the entire drivetrain though.

That's great then. I do have a c280, i suppose the e420 motor should drop in fine. This is good news then. Thanks!

i thought this wasn't true until the new architecture of the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.4 started in like 98?

i know little though

Hrmm.. so it's not a straight swap? or is it?

I have an 1994 c280.

Buy my buddy's C36 engine, tranni and wiring harnass (search for posts by me).

I completely agree. What I was hinting at was, you'd basically gut an entire donor car. Rear diff, transmission, drive shafts would need to be shortened and rebuilt, engine, ecu, tcu, fuel system, air system, lots and lots of work.

why not just sell your w202 and get a C43 for about $10k?
