Which LED Tails?

My birthday is Thursday, and I think I am going to treat myself to some tinted windows and new tails.

My car is white, a 99 with the updated smoked tails - but I would like LED's and the crystal look too.

I'm looking at a couple different types

I wish I could combine both models so I could have LEDs at the top and bottom, and the smoked center section.

I would go with the 2nd option but I'm not sure how it would look with the window tint...

any comments or suggestions are welcome.

But they are from the Germany - probably about $300 shipped to here. DAMN I wish these were sold in the US.

I was actually doing some more looking around, and might get the one with the LED's on top and bottom and then just hit them with some nightshades. Nothing real dark, just on par with the stock tails.

sounds good...i have LED reverse light and im happy with it. im not even sure if i want to replace the tail light unless these items on ebay are made in germany...if you find one then get it!
also, look for the ORANGE Bosch corners!

Definitely the first pair! The second pair will look too flashy and mmmight cheapen the way your car looks. Crystal red is bright! It depends on what you like though.

I am pretty sure I am going to go with the second pair, and then I am just going to find some nightshades and tint them a little bit. I don't think I am going to do them real dark... gonna try to get close to stock.

FYI: the first pair DOES NOT have the LED lights for the brake light. to anyone thinking about buying LED tails i would stay away from those. you will be disappointed.

I agree... I want LED brake lights and that is why I am going to go with option number 2 and nightshade them.

Thanks for all the input so far guys... give me about two weeks and I should have the tails, tint, and avantgarde grill all done!

actually the brake lights are leds. the bottom led part acts as your brake light and the top only lights up when the lights are on and so do the leds. but if you do get the first one i would still suggest finding a set of leds to replace the top bulb.

the crysal look always looked too "toyota" for me, so I went OEM

they are the updated versions, so I smoked them to make them a bit darker, and also even out the top and bottom

EDIT: I forgot to say that I actually just ordered my LED tails about 15 minutes ago... I ended up going with the crystal clear ones with LED's up top and on the bottom. I am going to go searching around town for some nightshades this weekend, if not I'll have to get some off ebay.

The led crystal and led crystal smoke led sets with led's up top and bottom work the same as OEM lights. When you brake the top section of led's light up and when you have city lights / driving lights on the bottom row of led's are lit up.

Supposedly the led crystal / smoked lights with the globe at the top and the led's at the bottom work in the opposite way which is a bit stupid, anyone else know if this is true apart from lamf?

And as if the crystal look is 'toyota' lol, what about the cls63 amg sl's etc they all come with crystal look lights with led's.

I agree... I think just the top lighting up as tail lights (when you have your lights on) would look weird. I like having the brake light at the top of the assembly.

Ryhi... I know you got the lights with the LED's on top and bottom. What is the lighting configuration on these, as in, when you press your brake - does just the top light portion light up (a la OEM), or does the top and bottom LED's light up? Same for when you have your headlights on - does just the bottom LED light up (I'm hoping in a dimmer fashion than when you are braking), or does both the top and bottom light up, and then brighten as you press your brake?

Also, has anyone ever put LED's for turn signals and reverse lights? I was looking through things on autolumination and they have some wide angle "matrix" LED's that look like they would spread the light throughout the reflector quite nicely. I know I'd have to get resistors to not get the "quick flash" syndrome... not even sure if I am going to do it yet, just an idea.

I've avoided it because of the quick flashing people get and you have to install resistors that supposedly get extremely hot, if anyone knows the proper way to install clear led / orange blinking led globes fill us in :bunny:

you can always run a "hidden" 5w bulb.

hey atleast they are led's and much better looking than the stock unsmoked ones a had, but hows it worse? that would just be retarded if the leds didnt act as your brake lights. i would have gone with the led top and bottom if they were on ebay when i bought mine.
