Im wondering if it would be possible to ship my C280 engine into AMG and have them modify it for me, then have it shipped back. Has anyone ever done this before and what would I be expecting price wise? Thanks -Stephen

Well, as long as the price would be reasonable I figure it would be better putting some money into my 202 than investing in a new car. Do you think the it would be below 6k?

Do you think AMG would do this? Would I need to have any thing else modified to handle the power of the new engine?

ship it to Germany?
how do you want them to modify it? why not get a c36 engine from somewhere and tweak that one a bit ur self, I don't think they would modify it to be more powerful then a c36 engine anyways
if they do lemme know, im saving up :)

I dont think AMG would waste their time on a used motor tunning it for you, if they would it would cost you around the price of a AMG C36/43.
if you have a M104 C280 motor you can directly swap a C36motor flash the ECU.

How much would it be to purchase a C36 motor.. Im looking for one with low miles preferably... Nothing else has to be done but switching the ECU, no new transmission?? ..thats probably what I will do in the near future seeing this being the cheapest option.

You need to see the motor in person before you buy it. Buying a motor without seeing it first is like going on a blind date with your female friend's "sweet" friend :D

you have to find one locally.
NO DO NOT SWICH THE ECU!!!
you keep your OEM ECU because a differnt ECU wont let you start the car because the EIS wont match the VIN number with the ECU = car wont start.
you keep your C280 ecu and have Mercedes-Benz plug it to an SDS (Star-diagnostic scanner) and reflash it while uploading it if your car was a C36.
the C280 transmission will work as far as I know, but I hear that the C36 one is stronger. im not sure but the differential could be differnt on the real C36 meaning if you use a C280 one it will rip off the line faster, but not focused on topend and theres a possibility you will destroy the C280 diff. if your hard on it all the time, so keep your foot out the radiator! I need to find out of a C180 diff. is differnt from my C230.

if your willing to invest 6 k into a motor i would sell your c280 and get a c43 or c36 ...not only will you be saving in the long end but you have true amg car instead of a c280 with a different motor. i have seen c43 go for about 12k

If I sold my c280 and bought a 12k C36/43 ..would I really be buying a car with no problems..? I think I would be better putting the money into my car since I know everything is ok.

Would it be possible to take my engine somewhere and have it turned into a c36 engine? Are there any places that anyone knows of that does this? ..would this be a good idea?

Good luck.
You are seriously looking at around 10k for all that work. I believe this estimate is conservative.

For my car here is what they did(AMG)......
They made the cams, bigger sleeves, reworked the intake, installed injectors from a CLK320, reworked the ECU, put in a 4.77 rear gear. Plus a few other odds & ends. This added an extra $17,000ish to the final build cost of the car. The car ending up costing the guy just a tad over $50,000.
So with this little bit of work. Imagine having them do all the machine work & stuff you want them to do. $10,000 is no where near close a number. Not to mention...NO they will not do it.
Considering the engine block from your car is the same as the C36. I highly suggest you just do a standard rebuild w/ the 3.6L parts(resleeve the block) extrude hone the intake, get a good exhaust, Reflash the ECU & call it a day. That IF DONE PROPERLY can get you in at under $10,000 & you will not have to worry about any thing not fitting, or the stress of having to ship anything anywhere. Not to mention ALOT less downtime.
A slight upgrade from 2.8L to a 3.6L will be a decent gain in power without having to buy new injectors, pump ect..
Granted you will not have full C36 specs, but it will be better then stock.
When built new. Mercedes will do anything the purchaser wants to the car, as long as what you want done falls into the same class chassis/ This is why my car has what it has. The owner didnt want a V8 car, so he did what AMG told him they would do.... except I believe he said he had to pay extra for the camshafts, because they are not a standard part.

I've read that a crank from the I-6 350D can stroke the engine to 3.6L. Anyone else heard of this.

The crank from the 350SDL was what AMG used to stroke the 2.8 to 3.6 in the C36
haha you can't be serious about anything you said stevop.
