Today as I was browsing through some options for a new stereo for my 1999 C280 sport I came accross this..
http://www.pcrichard.com/assets/product_images/styles/large/L_VM8012.jpg

I found it in an add in the paper selling for $179 USD. I was wondering how much I could sell my stock stereo for and what your thoughts are on this stereo ..good/bad? why? thanks a lot

Stereo Upgrade! YAY!

You'll even have a hard time giving your stock stereo away! Just keep it if you plan on selling your car at some point so you don't have to ask on the forums for one.

As for the new stereo.. what's the point of a 2 inch screen? It's too small to watch movies or to really do much else. If you plan on playing DVDs or watch music videos, I say go with a bigger screen that folds out, which means you'll need to relocate your AC to your cubby hole.

If you don't plan on spending $500 and the time, get a good deck with IPOD hookups for about $100.

What are some good features about this thing? Does it have a Hard Drive?

The only problem with an Alpine head unit is the DVD player.. I was considering some flip out navigation head units.. although the price is higher Im thinking that it would be worth it.. after looking for awile my favorate one is this
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51M87vaI-FL._SS500_.jpg

...This is selling for around $850 USD, what do you think of kenwood? will it cost a lot to install this? will it be worth it to spend the extra money for the navigation and the flip out?

What is IMPRINT sound?

every touch screen i had.......gave out on me after a while....so i really stay away from them.......i have a poineer AVIC N2 display model at my job for around 500 bucks i think...poineer is pretty good....jvc stepped up the game too might want to peep them out......imprint sound....does all your tuning and time corrections pretty much for u.....by placing a mic in certain locations

the newer alpine stuff isn't any good either- huge mass production isn't good for anyone.

well not everyone can afford McIntosh Audio either......for mass production alpine is alright. When you get into F1 Status, that’s a wholeeeeee different ball game....then your talking about tuning capabilities beyond belief.

more or less, sure-

i prefer real controls over digital too

f#1 is obviously very good- i just posted because it's pretty questionable that any of the "big" brands are better than any of the others at this point.

the kenwood your looking at is a good unit with the nav/dvd player. not only are you able to do nav , you can also watch video while driving ....one simple step to do it , ground one wire. as for the alpine there is a unit where you can buy the indash and then buy the blackbird, the black bird (double din unit) is the nav system that slides inside the deck plus you can take it out and use it else where. as far as the pioneer units there very hard to watch videos on them since there not just a wire ground to watch hook up. but there are places i have seen where if you change some things you can trick the unit to play them while driving. installing of the kenwood unit would be very simple when the right harness and antenna adapter is used. in the mercedes the speed sence is on the radio harness so wires for the deck should be easy. install shouldn't take long as long as its done right. install for something like that shouldn't run more then 150 bucks.

i was wondering when Logic was going to put his 2 cents in.....i was like this guy must have went camping again....ALPINE SUCKS WITH NAVI/Video UNITS......DON'T BOTHER........there only good regular HUs.......dude the new JVC arsenals are awsome.........btw u wouldn't happen to have the updated sw for the black bird........alpine hasn't done a upgrade since 2006......those homos

yeah, that's my car

it's a lot of image dynamics (processing, horns, and mids) and mobile spec (amps) plus a stereo integrity subs and boston tweeters. My current head unit is a pioneer, but i've run about 6 this year.

the suspension, wheels, etc. have all been greatly improved and will continue to be since these pictures

it might look sort of cool- but keep in mind that it was all driven by the product and the sound (it sounds 100x better than it looks)

So yes on the Kenwood? ..It seems to be the best I can get for around $800... any others that are comparable/better than the Kenwood for around the same price?? ..would you be able to install this by yourself or would it just be better to have it done for you?
