View Full Version : Changing thermostat . . star bolts ???

alright i bought the part now i need to know what kinda tool i need to swap it out. What do i use to remove that star bolt, it looks like the reverse of the the trox bolts.

you got it. its the opposite of the torx, inverted torx i guess you could call it...

on worked on it today and just used regular socket, for the thermostat it was 8mm.

perhaps you're looking for security torx?

the bolt it self looks like the trox bit, i tried sears and luck, but was able to get it to work the regular socket.

You can use the metric sockets on these bolts but be careful not to strip them. I believe the actual name of the bolts are External TORX drive system. You can get the sockets online here ---> LARA.COM (http://www.lara.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=sockets)

I would suggest buying a set rather than stripping the bolts.
