fan belt replacement

Anyone know if you can replace the fan belt on a '95 C220
without taking off the fan? Haynes says that with some
models you have to remove the fan, others you don't.

Your fan should have 3 or 4 bolts that attach it to the fan clutch. Removing the plastic peice of the fan is easy, all you need is the correct size L wrench. That is all you have to remove to give you access to the tensioner and belt.
