The key wording is "up to." That means anywhere from .0001 hp to 25 hp fulfills the promise!

let me explain how this resistor works and how it increases hp. the resistor when put in line will make the car think its cold out side meaning when you first start your car when its cold it seems to have a little more pep . when the car come to temp the car goes into like running mode which then it seems the car isn't as peppy. so all this resistor is doing is keeping the resistence on that wiring making the pcm that is cold out side . make a note this doesn't work on turbo or super charged engines.

sup punk ...where ya been ? i did a install on a 04 cobra and came out sweet. i did a enclosure with two 10's hidden behind a panel so all you see is a panel with solar cloth in the center. on the other side ( when the seat is folded down) i flushed mounted the alpine amp and to the side did a cobra next to it. the cobra was made of 1/4 mdf and has two layers to give it a 3 d effect under the carpet. i also put a l.e.d on its eye so when the amp turns on its eye turns blue. as far as the mercedes i m sorry you been having so many problems with it .

the ONLY way you can extract 25HP is with serious modifications like headers and crank pulley. Intake is only usually good for about 6-8 wheel HP tops and chips on the dyno rarely pull more than 5-10HP and thats from the best tuners (on OBD2 cars). One thing I have noticed on benzes is that they dont really respond that well to chips, not nearly as well as BMWs do. Chip is the last mod I'd do, intake the first (assuming its a REAL cold air intake and not just some ebay hot air intake open cone filter in engine bay).

Resistor will fry you ECU in less than 1000 miles, don't do it.

the flashing of the ecu that you do omey...is that the same as being chipped?

CRU he was referring to the Mercedes. You cannot get 25HP out of these cars easily...or cheaply.

ooh no lol i was talking about Section 8's bike

i know you can't get 25hp out of the 202s cheaply........its ridiculous.....even bmws have a better hp to cash ratio

yes,

in simple terms chip = OBD1, flash = OBD2 (96+). You can actually chip an OBD2 ECU but its very hard b/c you have to completely desolder the chip off the main ECU motherboard and resolder a new one in.

Honestly chips don't produce much power on Benz cars.

It isn't easy to get HP out of the W202 in the past but that should soon change, as cars drop in value they become more economically viable for aftermarket performance modifications to be made by tuners b/c the number of modders typically increases as the cars get cheaper and get into younger and more aggressive performance enthusiasts (this is a generalization of course).

You CAN make lots of power out of M104s, they just were never given the time of day b/c they came a few years before the "Performance Modification Revolution" in the late 90s which really took off. The only really extremely modified M104 was the Carlsson C37 which there is almost NO documentation about this car and what was done exactly except the small blip about it on their website.

Granted it won't ever be stupid cheap to mod these cars (these aren't E30 bmws or 190 mercedes and they probably never will be), but there will be new ways to unlock power out of these suckers soon I can promise you that.

The problem is anytime a car gets older than 2 generations, the big name tuners typically drop them and concentrate on the new "big money" cars and get rid of their old product lines, but M104 came before the modding revolution so it wasn't even given the time of day even when it was new.

My advice... do chip last, your ECU can adapt more than you know (especially OBD2), unless you have almost every mod in the book, the chip won't really help out much, you are much better off doing intake & exhaust which will help lean up your mixtures and help you create some more power and free up some restriction.

thanks for the info omey...i was thinking of having mine flashed but for the results you say i might get i can save my money

ya, avoid chip at all costs (no pun intended). IF you ever do decide to do it, Oliver at SpeedtuninUSA will do a C36 chip for you and he can even to custom tuning and custom redline changes and etc (although sometimes that alone isn't enough to raise redline b/c tranny ECU also plays a factor.

For the record, my measly little C230 NA gained ~6whp and 16+wtq! from a SpeedInnovation ECU retune. Not bad!!

good to know, thats awesome results. Among the E55 boys though many have gotten the chip and only a few HP was made on the dyno in multiple occasions, so it depends on the car. Most E55 NA W210 guys won't even do the chip b/c the results simply were not there. Again it varies from car to car.

to make a gain from a chip it really needs to be tuned to the specific car on a dyno.
thats an ok increase in torque for a 2.3 OCklass

oklasse what did you pay for the ecu flash? and was it something you took out or did they do it still installed in your car?

omeyhomey
01-17-2008, 06:22 PM
most require you to take out your ECU, ship to them and they ship it back. That means your car will have downtime. Thats one of the biggest reason most don't do it anyways is b/c of the inconvenience it causes. Do it last if at all.
