Let me just start off with the fact that I have used the red search button and have been reading other threads for the past hour... I just need some help pinpointing my issue(s).

My 1999 C280 always starts right up in the morning. It idles fine. It doesn't die on me. The problem is that, on occasion, it might not start up mid day. What happens is that when I turn the key to start it just cranks for a while but does not turn over. The gas pedal does not help. Typically if I just let it sit for a while (sometimes thirty seconds, sometimes thirty minutes) it will start up and run just fine. No CEL.

The spark plugs are brand new and the fuel filter is about eight months old.

What do the experts think? Fuel Relay? Crank Position Sensor? OVP? Wiring Harness (please, no)?

Thanks for the help!

crank sensor!!!!!!!!! easy ten minute job. apply a light coat of silicone or lubricating grease around the side of the new sensor to make it slide in easy!

(this works for more than just cars, HAHA - sorry i had too!)

???

It wasn't very bad on my '99 C280, or my C43. But a skinny arm and hand certainly helps!

(The one on my C43 died and I 'borrowed' the sensor from the C280's V6, and then returned it when the new one arrived.)

Change it quick before it dies while you're on the road! There are some horror stories of them dieing while in traffic.

can anyone tell me whether its a torx or hex screw? i may need to go purchase some heads before i try this.

Use an E8 Torx socket. I used a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 2" extension.

hmmmm.... anyone know the part number or specs of the torx bolt that holds the sensor in? my original is now a resident of the abyss that is the w202 engine bay, somewhere behind the heat shield.
