I am not sure what will happen if you replace the brake (upper portion) and tail (lower portion) lights with LEDs...

The LED tails that I bought came with resistors, so I am assuming if you don't put resistors on the brake and tail lights - you will get the bulb-out light.

Replacing the reverse lights with LED's will not trip the bulb-out light.

If you do LED turn signals you need to get resistors anyway so you don't have a "quick flash"

Yah, I added LED light bulbs to my upper brake lights ( the ones that turn on when you hit the brakes ) and i did have the check bulb Indictor come on, and i was driving with one blown license plate bulb for 6 months and no check bulb indictor came on.

The bulb out indicator does not check the license plate bulbs.

so that means replacing a LED on the licence plate bulbs will NOT indicate a bulb out indicator.

please correct me if i am wrong.

You are correct. I have LED's for my license plate lights and I got no bulb out indicator.

So why bother with the "Exterior lamp failure" bulb anyway! I simply removed mine from the Instrument Cluster.

I like the LED's benefit of reducing the power requirement and heat of filament bulbs, but putting resistors in for LEDs just defeats the effect.

I've not updated my turn signals with LEDs yet, so I haven't run into the quick flash problem, but can't we use one of the LED flashers such as on
http://autolumination.com/equalizers.htm to solve the problem without resistors?

I've pulled each of the 5 relays on the top of the driver's side engine compartment Fuse/Relay box, but the turn signals and emergency flashers still blink.

So WHERE IS the Turn Signals Relay for 1998-2000 W202s?
