The oil light lit up, I checked the oil and it was indeed low. I added some oil and drove around a little but now the oil light won't go off. This happened before (3k miles ago) and the sensor was changed.

Why doesn't the light go off?

Have you gone by Autozone to scan for codes in case that might give you a direction to start investigating? I would get it checked out in case it is something more than a sensor. Low oil pressure would not be a good thing if it is happening.

Here are some of the codes that might pop up:

P0195 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Malfunction
P0196 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Range/Performance
P0197 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Low
P0198 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor High
P0199 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Intermittent

P0520 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Malfunction
P0521 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance
P0522 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Voltage
P0523 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit High Voltage

>>I thought the OBD2 only diagnoses check engine lights?<<

If you are asking whether there can be a code stored yet the CEL is not Iluminated, I have had this occur.

I believe that if your '95 C280 was built after Jan. 9, 1995, you can read your Error Codes from the Automatic Climate Control. I've added some instructions to my w202 page (http://kropf.net/w202/#CCerrs).

I had it scanned at autozone, but no codes came up and the oil light is still on.. I'm thinking that the oil light is like the srs light, it can only be erased with advanced scanners.. ie the scanners car shops and dealers have

i'll try what kropf posted and see if that helps

Wonder what the electronic oil level reports.
If so equipped, please check this (from page 82 of this PDF version of owners manual (http://kropf.net/w202/w202owners_manual.pdf) and/or page 111 of the printed '99 manual):

Odometer Display Field
(Models C 280 and C 43 AMG)

Turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2 and wait until the symbols [OIL] and [CLOCK] appears in the odometer display field. Within 1 second press button O twice.

The following messages are available:
"OK"
"-1.0 Q" (Canada: -1.0 L)
"-1.5 Q" (Canada: -1.5 L)
"-2.0 Q" (Canada: -2.0 L)
"HI"

... The symbol [CLOCK] flashes in the odometer field if a proper oil level check cannot be performed. ...
In this case we recommend that you have the system checked at a Mercedes-Benz dealer.

The Low Engine Oil Level Warning Lamp indicates that you have low oil level in the engine.

You have checked and filled the engine oil to the correct level by use of the dipstick.

You no longer have an oil problem. The indication lamp is still on due to a malfunction of the oil level indication system.

If I was you I would remove, clean, test and if necessary replace the oil level sender and the seal.
