hi guys
the cats on my exhaust are damaged.
and i'm getting a very "tinny" sound from it.
i need to know whats the best performance option for the c230K in terms of pipe diameters and cat/decat and how many silencers.

please help.
thanks

Hey man, I have a C23K aswell. I switched al my exhaust out for better aitflow and weight losse. What I did was drop every stock exhaust item under the car. Then I used 2.25" piping sstartig from the headers, then a very small racing cat, the the magnaflow resegnator and a magnaflow muffler (14833). Its sunds beautiful, and trust me you will definetly see a change in acceleration from low speeds. Omeyhomey gave me all this info that im giving you and more. Im sure he will be chiming in pretty soon, cause hes kindof the exhaust guy. Im at school now but when I get home I will try to give the links to the parts.

Run NO cat, for better flow. :D

ok.
so there seems to be a split in the cat/decat issue.
but what about the pipe diameter and number of silencers?

I went with 2.25" diameter. Omeyhomey said thats the biggest that our 4 banger s/c needed. Trust me, its big enough.

Hey guys,

I will chime in now. 2.25" is MORE than enough for your SC I4, 2.5" will be way too much. Plus 2.25" gives you the most options as far as what exhaust to run.

Do not run catless. The gains are often over exaggerated and you will smell fuel at every stop light, if you had a BMW race car I would say sure but for the street, keep a cat on the car.

My recommendation is if your exhaust is going out just replace the entire system, it will cost you next to nothing to get a whole free flowing system from the headers all the way to the tips.

The key to a good exhaust note is the resonator, you need to run the 22" magnaflow 4" body resonator for maximum resonance tuning. If you what medium to aggressive sound then you can run the Magnaflow all-in-one catback mufflers with the tips preinstalled. If you want a more conservative tone but still more aggressvie than stock then run one of their 14" universal 5x8 mufflers with one of their separate weld on tips.

The resonator will cost you about $65, the muffler about $65 and the tips about $65 (or if you want the all in one its about $140 for muffler & tips)

You WILL want to get 16 gauge mandrel bent piping for all the transitions. You may want to replace your current cats with a magnaflow cat which will flow better than your stock unit and update your emissions b/c your cats are probably either going to go bad soon (or may already have you just don't realize it yet until the CEL comes on).

You should be able to get an entire system done for under $350 in parts and probably $200-300 in labor (depending on the shop).

I recommend replacing everything at once and just getting a whole nice new system for about the same price that most brand name catback rear sections alone cost.

Remember, the key to good sound is the resonator, don't cheap out.

Yea parts costed me about $220 and labor was $150 so all together it was $370. Not bad compared to some of my friends prices for exhaust. If you do what Omey says you will definetly get very good results. Hope that helps.

ya, I opened up the M104 on my S320 with intake & magnaflow exhaust, it sounded AMAZING. Its a truly sweet sounding engine. I can't wait to open up my C36, I hear its a real screamer
