Is the supercharger meant to be that noisy?

For me, that SC noise would get old real fast!

Logic
03-08-2008, 07:36 AM
well first of all the super charger isn't that loud when the hood is down and when you are driving it. it sounds like a mustang cobra when driving which in my eyes sounds cool. you have to take in concideration the car is a install bay which makes the sound louder which i did on purpose so the whole thing can be heard and loved hehehe xvvvz you should hear it in person and i would bet you would get the CAI especially of the by pass sound when the gas is disengaged. ill take another video of the car driving so you guys can get the whole feel of what it sounds like.

It sounds like a dooms day siren, But it would be nice if you can make another video with the hood down and outside

I like that sound...What was the name brand again of the CAI system you are using?

omeyhomey
03-08-2008, 08:38 PM
exactly how did you run your magnaflow setup?

did you delete your resonator and run a 14833? did you just replace the rear fan but keep stock resonator?

Honestly SC whine is extremely loud (sounds like a howling coyote) and I would probably to something else but it sure does sound aggressive.

Thx for posting the vid! :D

chewy : thanks for the great deal on the muffler its sounds great
omey: i was going to do a magnaflow 22" 4 inch body resonator but the place i had it done at which is buds mufflers said the factory one would suit me better since i didnt want a to agressive sound and the factory was high flow so i basically had the exhaust from the resonator back replaced to the muffler
nelson: i will make another video with the hood down and out side, it was done inside a install bay so it might have sounded louder then expected so video 2 will be done when its not snowing over here
69chevelle: that intake was totally custom made from scratch , my friend that owns rx motorsports here in colorado made it and will be making 2 more when the weather warms up here so he can duplicate it off my car . actually the ones he is making is for two guys in the 202 club;) also he will be doing the other side and replacing those plastic pieces. i concidered the mas relocation but dont like the way it looks so ill be replacing it with 3 inch to match the other side.

ya,

I plan on keeping my OEM C36 resonator as well since I will be running 14833 as well b/c I need more resonance tuning on such a large engine, plus I want a very conservative sound, if you want a sportier/racier sound you can go with the mag 22" res (I ALWAYS run that setup on my bmws and get countless compliments on how amazing it sounds).

I have a feeling b/c it was done in a garage bay with no insulation with hood open (and I bet bypass makes it even louder) that it made it sound very loud and echo. I'm sure next video it won't be loud. I am still very curious to hear what it sounds like.

Good job :)

It sounds sick Logic. I love the way SVT cobras sound, so this is sorta like it. You should definatley make a pass-by video so we can here what it sounds like driving by.

totally , since i m in the drivers seat you can totally hear it and when i was slowing down before it switched gears you can hear the bypass valve pffffffftttttt . i m telling you your going to love me hehehehe. by the way did you see the small breather i was telling you about near the CAI. i will be taking the camera tomarrow to work and i m going to do a drive by and see what happens

What about it?

Logic
03-11-2008, 01:33 PM
well thats the breather i was explaining about earlier . thats the hose on top on the engine that goes the air box. i just put a breather via the end using a small pipe inserted and the breather on the other . ill ask chris if that was part of the package you guess discuss.

nice work on the intake Logic.. how far back does your intake go (to the supercharger)? did you replace the stock inlet pipe on the supercharger as well?
sounds good.. i think my intake set up may be a lil louder though!!

not bad for a 2.3k. I bet you picked up a few ponies with intake & exhaust. certainly sounds nice. I do hear some drone but honestly its very difficult to avoid that on the 4-bangers. Still very nice job. exhaust is not too loud, although the supercharger could be a tad bit quieter haha.

the noise i m used too and i think the level is just perfect. omey i think if i would have replaced the factory resonator it would have been a little to loud for me. when i get the other side of the piping done i will post pictures. i will be getting that done pretty quick, i was also reading running the molley bolt type clamps in that side would be suggested since there is more pressure on that side. thanks for the compliments guys

I agree, stock resonator was the right choice in your case. Good Job. Congrats on the goodies. enjoy them! :D

no sorry, dont have any vids of my car with the intake set up.. need to do that for sure.
I also really need to replace my muffler, its fallen apart.. stupid canadian winters have destroyed my muffler.. its fallen apart, blew the muffler open at the seam!
so im looking for a good shop in my area to make me a custom full exhaust and a custom header as well.

Sounds like something Elliot Spitzer would be interested in installing today (NY governor that was forced to resign today).

hahahah rofl :D

sometimes though a magnaflow resonator can do better job of eliminating resonance than the stock one, it all depends each individual custom system, all custom systems are different so its hard to set a general rule.

has anyone else done highflow cat yet?

i m trying to get with rx motorsports and since i m off next week we are going to try to get you guys taken care of. he was telling me his welder was getting fixed so hopefully this doesn't make us wait any longer. jabu i will get with him and see if he will get back with you on costs. i think since you live in canada might make shipping a little pricey. c230k did you want the other side done too? i will be getting mine done and i think jabu wants it done too . not sure on price for that side but when i know i will let you know.

as you wished :D

Also, DO NOT forget to get 16 gauge mandrel bends. I usually get a 180* U-bend and cut it in half at the 90 degree mark, then rotate the other half 180 degrees and turn it into an S-bend via welding. this will save you more money than having to get two seperate 45 degree bends (or 90 as well).

Technically dual 45s would be the highest flowing but weather thats even measurable on a dyno is doubtful.

Magnaflow cats:

make an offer of like $100-105 (try the lowest first, then work your way up).

you are getting overcharged. You can get the muffler for $140 easy off ebay if you make offer. Resonator is $65 shipped. The high flow cats (lowest I've seen) are $114 not 65, 65 is the normal magnaflow cat, not the highflow one, although at times sellers will try and trick you into thinking its high flow.

the shipping and duties are the killer since i'm in canada :S

and where can i get the bends for cheep??

ebay of course

make sure to get ALUMINIZED steel not MILD steel.

thanks des! time to clean out the inbox lol. i was just going to message you about the intake as well but haven't had time lately. i just finished putting on the carbon pillers! WOW WOW WOW love em! can't wait for the intake:D

i was talking to a local exhaust shop and they were saying to stay away from the magnaflow cats. they've had to warranty quite a few of them lately for defects. are there any other good options for cats. the shop recommended Walker(sub division of dynomax) and they also recommended dymonax mufflers. has anyone had any experience with these companies and their products?

Logic
