Was in the same boat. To verify if it was some bad sensor or the cluster itself, I used my climate control to display the speed, temp, etc.. When it displayed correctly, I knew it was the cluster gone bad. I replaced it with another, although, with a different model type (which is another story), started working again.

Yes, cluster means the whole, dash thing. If you have the digital climate control, with ignition on, place your a/c temp to "LO" and press the "REST" button for 5 seconds. The display will change from "LO" to "01" on the left side and the right side will display the readout depending on what was chosen. In this case, 01 will display the in-car temperature. Press the up/down temp arrows to change "01" to what you need monitored.

01=in-car temp sensor
02=outside temp sensor
06=coolant temp
21=engine speed
22=vehicle speed
24=battery voltage

There are a lot more but don't have time right now - off to work.
