ok, so i get in my car and it starts fine, drives fine for around 5 mins, then it dies. it does not want to idle at a stop or when i go wot the car holds back, like its about to cut out. if i stop the car would cut out, if i try to start it back, it would not idel. if i leave it and come back to it a day later, it would start and be fine again for 5 mins of driving.
any ideas on what is going on?

i had something similar when i had a c280......turned out i needed a new air mass meter...and check to make sure all the hoses are connected....have a previous mechanic forget to hook one of the hoses up, and it was letting too much air into the engine....therefore resulting in needing a new air mass meter.you may wanna get it fixed soon though, cause i put it off, and it ruined the engine mounts due to the extra vibration/hesitation
hope this helps

1st disconnect the battery, let the computer reset it self (4 hrs give or take).
Start it, see if its doing the same problems.
Then check to see if there are any vac lines that are broken.
If none........yank your spark plugs and see how they look....
Then check to see if you have good fuel pressure
if it was a bad MAF, your Check engine light will pop
none of the above, shit take it to the dealership let them snap on SDS
theres no really good way to check your wireharness........you could see it in prefect condition, but there could always be breaks inside the wire
nothing thing to check would be to see how well your t-body opens and closes....or if it hummmmmms really bad

I second the crankshaft sensor idea!
My crankshaft sensor went out and had the same symptoms. Car either wouldnt start or would die but only when the car was ideling/stopped. If i waited a little the car would start back up but problem would keep reoccuring. I think it was around $500 to get it fixed, might have been a little less i forget.

I just had a situation where it would crank over but wouldn't start, took it to so called experts on mb's and then to a backyard mech. and it was the crank sensor. $250 and back running, also triple A, if you don't have it get it

if its a crank sensor your car will either die out when driving after a lil while (hot engine) or it just wont start at all. probably wont turn over.
if your car does start up but runs like crap and dies out.. maybe look at your mas. what year is your car? if its older.. take a look at the wire harness for the engine.
tell us what you find.

SLAMMED_C brought up a good point, when my crankshaft sensor went out the problem was mainly it not starting or the car randomly turning off. I dont recal having any lack of power when this would happen.

thanks guys, will order the parts this week, let you know how it goes. Quick question, are the top control arms the same for LHD and RHD models?

I had the same problem with my 94 c220. It happened once and a while then more often. I replaced the crank and cam sensor, still did it. It was the ECM. The fuel circuit in the unit was bad and would cause the the fuel to not pump or pump at to low a pressure and the car would surge. The new ECM fixed the problem. Not cheap. over $900.
