I pulled up my ac codes. I have a 1998 c230.

The a/c codes where:

03 12 9
05 146
06 152
07 8degree9
08 100
10 295
20 000
21 070
22 000
23 000
24 13.8
40 03
41 03
42 18
43 6

I have a problem where my ac compressor cuts off after one minute. It's nice and cold but cuts off. Restart car same thing, works for a minute.

I'm pretty sure it is because of the evaporator temp sensor. I think that is the '05 146' reading? My understanding is that that value should be much lower.

Question..do you think I am correct with replacing the sensor? That 146 value doesn't seem to change much.

Here is a thread I found that was pretty helpful:

I'm also in the middle of an AC repair and the search function on this forum is incredible. I'm using old info from here and logging most of it in a thread I've started in the Repairs section. First I'm tackling why my AC wasn't getting cold, second I'm tackling ducting/vacuum issues.

But I digress. To answer your question, i've also read that the evap temp sensor should read in the 35-40 degree range. But that doesn't mean the sensor is bad. According to an older thread (which I couldn't find again very quickly) it could likely point to a valve that is stuck open, preventing proper flow in the system. I believe it might have been the duo valve, but I could be mistaken.

Try doing a search using any combination of "ac" and "diagnosis." You'll find a wealth of knowledge that should point you in the right direction. That's what I do! For the sake of future travelers with this issue, post your results in the thread you've created so that the forum isn't tied up with countless loose-ends with nothing helpful to add.
