wierd gear changes while coming to a stop

hi guys got a wierd problem that i have started to notice... il try my best to explain.. ok so say im driving normal speeds the auto is in 3 or 4 and when i come to a set of light and have to stop... i pull up behind the car or whatever and it all seems fine untill i have nearly come to a complete stop then the gearbox decides to change down.. but when it does it does it really hard so yo u can here it and it jolts the car.... and then when i pull away the first gear change can sometimes be really horible it dont do it all the time but its intruding into my driving i like it to be smooth... this is not lol

can any one help or have any ideas

I would first start off by disconnecting your battery for a couple of minutes to reset the transmission adaptions and see if that helps. After disconnecting the battery, you will need to resynchronize your windows and sunroof plus have your radio code available.

If that doesn't help, I would check the transmission fluid level. If that is OK, then how old is the fluid? If it is over 50k, I would change it out.

il try the battery method tommorw.... the fluid was changed no more than 5k miles ago... i was thinking maf sensor i doubt its ever been cleaned! i have only had the car 10k and already i have replaced a lot of stuff the last owner had ruined.. its up for a service so il mention flex disk.. anyway

i was driving around to day to really try and figure out what the gearbox was doing.. and i came up with this

on a normal day
in W mode it wont rev over 5k and it wont go back into 1st when you stop it pulls away in 2nd for smoother ride i take it.

and in S it pulls away in 2nd and goes all the way to the red

but it would apear at the moment in W mode when slowing it waits untill the last second goes into 2nd gear like normal then makes a mad BANG and drops into first even in W mode
but it doesent go over 5k revs i was thinking mabe the button was broke and it was stuck in S mode

any way im stumped il see what merc says when its in

Good thought on the MAF. Sometimes they can be cleaned but other times they just have to be replaced.

i reckon i mgiht repalce it its done its milage and its time.. might be worth it
