Hi guys, long time lurker. I've been having a problem with my car lately. The car is running in 4 cylinders intead of 6 and when I step on the gas it doesn't respond as it used to.

It use to slow down and tremble then going back to normal when driving, and sometimes when I was idling it trembled from time to time. I had that checked but it turned out to be nothing and the car ran normally for a few more months.

Then it happened again last week. I changed the plugs, the wires and the coils and is it still doing the same tembling. We checked and it turns out that cylinder #6 is not working, so #1 isn't working either, since 1 coil work for 2 plugs.

So, my question is, is it the wire harness ? please tell me I'm just having a long and painful nightmare.

Swap the 6/1 coil for one of the other two coils and see if the problem remains with 6/1.

If the problem transfers to different cylinders, the the coil is bad.

New coil:

If the problem remains with 1/6, then get a new ignition wire set. New ignition wire sets are very cheap.

Ignition wire set:

Also need three of these:

Hey thanks for the reply and for the links OzC36.

I have already changed the coil positions and it's still having the same problem in the cylinder #6. I also changed the coils and ignition wire set with new ones.

I've been told to check the wire from the injectors.

Any other tips ? If it's the harness, then I think I don't have any other choice. heh.

CheungKinMen,

Ouch, that sounds like the wiring harness. You can buy the cable to the coil as a repair part from MB for the wiring harness. But if one cable has gone...well the next thing you will find is that the whole harness will be affected likewise.

I had my 1996 C36 harness completely rebuilt by an auto electrician "doin12volt". You can see details and contact doin12volt on the following thread.

"doin12volt's" repair cost was a fraction of the new part and the quality of work was better than the new part.

There is a write up on this board on how to replace a wiring harness.

Search screen name Eurosport + wire harness.
