I saw an old thread on this but it had no solution, my wipers will just come on, maybe do two swipes and then they rest, without touching the wiper stick, how does this happen?? my car doesnt have rain sencing wipers either, WTF!!!!

my brothers old bmw 318i used to do that and they found a short in the wire which caused it to do what you are saying . although this may not be your reason for you car i thought i would throw this out

had the exact same problem.
its this little box my mechanic showed me that went old, dunno the name though.
luckily, there was a used replacement in his garage that only costed around 100usd.. otherwise it would have been expensive.

It's probably the relay (little box).
I have an extra one and I can sell it to you if you want

You might do some searching on the K40 or k-40 relay to see if you are experiencing similar problems. Often that can be fixed vs. buying a new one.

I had the exact same problem. Replacing the combination switch solved it.

Had this happen to me. It is the Multi-Purpose Relay/Combination Relay or the Wiper Switch; Turn Signal & Wiper Switch.
I changed the relay first and all seem OK for a few weeks, but the problem came back.
I then changed the Turn signal and Wiper Switch and that fixed the problem for good. I have since found that this is a very common failure part in the W202.
