View Full Version : Installing engine start - worthwhile mod?

Hey guys, I've been considering an engine start button. I've been looking at ones on ebay and the starter button off the S2000, but then again its not a Honda but an MB so won't look right. Then a fellow member off another forum told me about the button on top of the gear shif that comes in the S classes and SLs, how easy would this be to hook up?

I cant help you with the actual mod, but we have an electronic start on our 1968 W108. :)

Does your car have no keyfob alarm or is it the early 'just a key'?

It has just a key, no key fob like on yours

you should be able to wire the start button then. a la s2000.
but as for the E/S/SL/CLS with the start button on the shifter.. those cars have keyless go.. this would not be compatible with your car as there are numerous parts that would need to be purchased to make it work!.. even then who knows if its possible without spending way too much money on parts.

The CLK Black series has one thats why I thought it would be a neat mod to do,......... but it has a better looking button

yea, plus its a dumb mod, unless you have a wireless key...like vettes and m3s

If you have a post update benz you would be able to do it. Just get an RFID tag on your keychain and then have the control madule wired to the electronic steering lock release. The just wire it up so one push with no brake is ignition and if you hold the brake it starts. Really not super hard. I have a pre-update so i cant really help too much.... And my sis wont let me touch her 280... so thats all i guess i can say for now... But it is possible, just takes time and determination.
