View Full Version : Can this be considered as a staggered

set up if you add a 10mm spacer on the rears if all 4 wheels and tires are the same width and size?

So lets say that all 4 wheels are ET35 and tires are 225/45/17 , adding a 10mm spacer on the rears would drop the offset to ET25 right? Would this be consider staggered?

Or must the wheel width's and the tires size and ratio's be completely different for it to be called a staggered set up?

im almost certain the rear rims must physically be wider then the fronts.

So different offsets has nothing to do with it, it's primarily the width? Because the wheel spacer basically does that , it alters the offset and widens width outward.

but it doesnt widen the actual rim which is what staggered is

what you would be doing in a staggered offset.. the rims are all the same size however the offsets are different to give the illusion of a staggered fitment wheel.
staggered fitment means the front and rear rims are different widths.

btw, if you are one to attack corners, you're going to find that if make your rear to front track-width ratio of wider in the rear, it's going to unbalance the car in turns and make it very easy to over-steer in a non-controllable fashion. The W202 likes the rear track width narrower than in the front.

The front and rear wheels are different widths. On sporty rear wheel drive cars, the rear tires are usually wider than the front.



Anyways, altering the track is different from increasing contact patch with wider tires (which is what a staggered setup is trying to do...)

Them why are all the AMG's wider in the rear? Just wondering.

Track width is the distance from the outside of the left tire's edge to the outside of the right tire's edge. The OP was talking about adding spacers to just the rear. That'll decrease the front-to-rear track width ratio. I found that to be very detrimental to "turning" by experience and was sharing it, to save some unsuspecting soul from suddenly finding that their trunk wants to lead their hood around hard turns while on public roads. If you never push the suspension & tires to the limit on turns, it's not likely you'll see this negative behavior of reducing the front-to-rear track-width ratio.
