I searched the smartkey threads and didn't find one that dealt specifically with this but is it possible to buy a smartkey body and switch the electronic guts from a facelift 202? I am curious if only the case changed or if the circuit board changed also.

If anyone has both and are willing to experiment, on the original key once you remove the battery section you can see the end of the circuit board inside. There is a small white-ish piece with a small metal clip that holds it in place. if you grab this with tweezers (the white part only, try not to tug on the electronics) it will come out, releasing the circuit board by tilting it down and letting it simply slide out, a couple of shakes may be necessary. I don't know if the smartkey works the same way. Curious to hear from you all on this.

Are you talking about inter-changing the plastic case of different version smartkeys -- long to short? IMHO, it will not be possible because they have different circuit boards. So the long smartkey innards will not fit in the short/small case.

If you just simply want to change the key's plastic casing - same size/design - it's possible. I've done it.

I did mean switching the outer casing to another design, so it seems not possible by what you describe. Thanks for the input (and saving my spare key from certain death!). :)
