My steering wheel is two tone gray and black. The gray leather part is starting to fade off, (Paint chipping).
Is there a kind of leather paint you can apply to restore it or better to trash the wheel and get another one?

Sounds good! On another topic where do you buy that rubber material that you can spray on and give things that non scratch coating? Kind of like the stereo volume knob is sprayed with this stuff.
I also have an old Magnavox portable TV and it's coated with this rubbery stuff...

Not sure if this will work for your application but places like Home Depot carry the small cans of liquid that you dip tool handles into and once set it's thick and rubbery. Comes in different colors too, just be sure to give it room to drain or drip off while hanging from a wire if possible.

I had the same thing going on with my merc. I ended up just buying a new all black wheel. It ran around $175 on ebay. Easy install. Just watch ebay for the deals to come up.

Another idea would be to go to an interior shop and ask about having the leather re-dyed. We used to have a guy who came around to the various car lots and would use an airbrush set-up to re-dye seats and steering wheels to look like new. Some even come to your home and do it while you wait so you don't have to remove the wheel, the guy we used never took the seats out, did it right there just by masking with plastic film to protect the rest of the interior.

That stuff is horrible! Think of the worst tool you have ever used that had like a plastic coated handle. Same thing. Its not like a Snap-on handle where it feels comfortable. Its like the el-cheapo one you get from the drug store... It just plan sucks!!

If you can remove the steering wheel you can use the Duplicolor interior and upholstery paint after thoroughly prepping the the surface.
Or find a shoe repair shop that sells dye and find the closest match to your steering wheel and go for it.
www.dallassteeringwheel.com refurbishes steering wheels
www.agla.net refurbishes steering wheels too and they also offer do it hour self recover kits.

I really need to do this with my AMG wheel too. The grey is really rubbed out.
