Hey all I wanted to know how rare these rims are.

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg210/bikeman311/Benz/benzpassenger.jpg

I had them on my old 190E. They came off of a 2000 Kompressor if im not mistaken. Mine were also chrome. I rarely see the set in the picture, but ive never seen the chrome set on another car except mine.

I made the stupid decision of trading them for Civic coil-over sleeves.

Very common. They are the standard wheels supplied with the sport package option from the factory.

Sport option were not available for C230
preupdate but only on C280.

At the time C280 Sport were running $40,000+

Looking back now, I should have bought the C36 which was selling around $54,000 then.

So in answer to the orig poster's question, they were very common.

If the sport rims were dipped in chrome...then that's rare. I think I've only seen one like that.

Are the chrome ones OEM, or a dealer part??

Remember people, im talking about the CHROME version of this rim, not the one posted in the picture. Thats just for reference.

I guess a C280 then? All I remember is what I saw when I bought these from a guy on craigslist who bought ugly 18"s for his MBZ.

I said "C230 preupdate" - at which time,
only C280 were in sport edition.

Not sure about the US market, since you guys didn´t get the C230K as early as we did, but in Europe Those rims came with the sportspackage from 1998 when the facelift arrived.
The sportpackage was available long before that, but with diffrent cloth-interior, diffrent carbonfibre look on the dash and without the white gauges.

I have a 1996 C230K with the sportspackage and for what I know, the diffrences between non-sport and sport are:

Interior:
Carbonfibre-look dashbordpanels, special Cloth Interior (in Millemiglia style), Gearknob with sports-logo(on the manual tranny).
Exterior:
16" sportsrims, Lower/harder chassis, bumpertrim and sidetrim in the same color as the car, sportslogos on the front fenders.

Some claims that the sportpackage has a diffrent gearratio on the powersteering, just like the Sportline-package on the W124, but im not so sure about that

Those rims mentioned above, was not available at the dealership in Chrome. Actually no rims from MB was available in chrome, ony option was Highsheen on some rims.

This is my understanding as well. Any chrome wheels I have seen are aftermarket, even those sold on new vehicles at dealerships may have been add-ons by the dealer. I know, for example, im California many dealerships send their cars to customizing shops for special wheels, kits, interiors, etc., on brand new cars, but that doesn't make it OEM. It is possible they came on someones car from the DEALER, just not from the FACTORY.

When I was searching for my present car, chrome wheels were actually a deal breaker in most cases because I knew I'd have to invest heavily in OEM replacements since I think they scream "aftermarket" to my eye.

97c280: I'd bet your wheels were chromed by the original owner and they didn't see the reason to spend the money to chrome a spare. If it was from the factory they would all match. Having said that, it doesn't really matter what's OEM and what's not as long as you love them on your car.
