I got in my car this morning turned it on and my windshield wipers just started going. The windshield wiper switch is turned in the off position and it is a constant low setting wiper action. I pulled the fuse and replaced it but it did not help. Any suggestions? I am guessing its a wiring issue but where would I start?
Thanks
Harris

Probably your combination switch. Try jiggling the stalk, and if the wipers stop, you have your culprit.

I agree with stox.

I had the same problem with my 1996 C36. The wipers would suddenly do a few sweeps, totally un-commanded. I have seen the problem referred to as Ghost Wipers.

Wiper problems are sometimes caused by the combination relay, but most often are caused by internal switching failure the multifunction stalk.

I fixed my wipers by buying a new (combination) multifunction stalk on eBay.

Thanks for the help guys.
My turn signal also went out today so I am guessing it has to be that switch. I ordered one off of ebay is there a diy for this? Im guessing i just remove the steering wheel and work it from there. I do not know how to solder wires so I am wondering if I should just take this to a professonal to install.
Thanks again for all of your help
Cheers

There is risk to life and limb disconnecting and reconnecting the SRS airbag. It also requires a special tool.

The job can be completed in less than one hour by an experienced Merc mechanic. I'd recommend that course of action.

Usally when your intermittent wiper stops working or your wipers are just going crazy its the combination relay. The solder joints get stressed becasue of the heat and start to crack. It is fixable. I have fixed about 5 now. If you would like i can fix yours for $40. Just let me know.
