Vehicle:
1998 C230 Naturally Asp. 184k miles
Crank no start when engine is cold.
-I replaced the Crank Position Sensor.
The problem is intermittent, I heated the cam position sensor with a heat gun with the same results.
However it will start if I turn the steering wheel while its cranking. When I turn the wheel while cranking it seems to put a load on the alternator and It engine backfires then starts.
Once the engine warms up its starts up fine.

Brand new MB battery
MAF less than a year old.
Brand new Crank position sensor 2 months old

I'm thinking it might be a coil.

When was the last time you a tune up? Change the spark plugs, cables and maybe the coils........
LOL!!! of all the members here, I can't seem to believe that you're asking this..

Haha yeah I know, I CAN solve this on my own but I thought Id throw it out there, I would like to see how many members know more than just changing out a light bulb. Plugs are less than 8 months old by the way lol. No they aren't the injectors lol. I'll post my progress. Although I wont have time to properly diagnose this problem due to my new work schedule. I've driven the C probably 30 miles this year so far. My DD is a 1986 190e 8v so I'm not to worried about it right now. :)

I hardly see Camshaft Position Sensor goes south. How about fuel pump? Fuel pump relay?

Current ramp test on the fuel pump shows its electrically ok, BUT it might be a mechanical failure. Chances are the pump is good. Once something fails mechanically on the fuel pump it'll be seen on the test i.e. high amperage. :) anyone else want to take a shot

I had an issue like this but....

It happened only once while it was warm , and i had a issue with a random misfire. I changed the coils, wires and plugs. Never had an issue since.

Got fuel in the tank?

One of the spark cable or spark plug is loose?

Sorry for the long wait lol, with this work schedule have I no time for anything. After testing various components it turned out to be the engine harness and one coil boot. I was getting jumpy resistance on one of the boots, while the other was fine. Also the coil harness is crispy, so Ill have to order new wire to repair that section (all the way back to the connectors, No splicing rubbish short cuts here.) Ill also be ordering new boots and while I'm at it a new wire set. Spark plugs still look great, OEM M-B stamped plugs :)
