Has anyone ever converted their shift to a tiptronic shifter? Is it possible?

I've been told that my 98 can easily be converted, not sure about prior to MY1997. My source is a MB Master Mechanic.

Some 97's still have the 4 speed auto trans which is not electronic. Only vehicles with the 722.6 Trans can be

I'm also a MB Master Tech. The shifter from a 98 is just a voltage coded switch that sends a different voltages to the transmission control module depending on where the shifter lever is. A 2000 shifter is an actual module that has engine CAN going to it. At the very least you would need a shift and transmission module from a 2000 and then you would need to build a wiring harness.

Not entirely sure of all the details. Sounds like yuo have an idea about the change, what exactly do you need to know?

I was just wondering if anyone has done it before. I guess I was looking for the easy answer, lol. It's going to be a pain in the ass to try to hunt down all the parts, build a wiring harness, and then hope it all works together. If I had a 2000 C43 VIN it would be a lot easier. I'm not sure if the Driver Authorization System will work with a trans module from a different year than the engine module.

If you'd like, I can put you in contact with my guy. Two heads are better than one, you know.
